Hello Group, I am new to this group and I am baffled by various abbreviations which I have seen in letters. I would like to know what is meant by TURP,UTI,DRE and PVP. TURP = Transurethral Resection of the Prostate - a surgery performed by inserting a retroscope through the uretha which will trim tissue from the prostate. Avoid this surgery at all costs! (just my opinion) DRE = Digital Rectal Exam - most common prostate exam where the doctor inserts a gloved finger into the rectum to feel the prostate. UTI = Urinary Tract Infection. PVP = Photoselective Vaporization of the Prostate - a new greenlight laser procedure for treatment of enlarged prostate (BPH). |
