Just curious if anyone in this group was ever helped by one of these
doctors. I've had a condition for about a year which was diagnosed
differently by the three different urologists I've seen. In my opinion
they were all quacks and none of them helped me.
Two weeks ago I left work to see a urologist because I was having a
burning pain in my penis and groin area. This doctor did a digital exam
of my prostate and claimed it was normal. My urine also had no signs of
infection but had a trace amount of blood, which I was told was nothing
to worry about? The diagnoses was nerve problems in my pelvic area. I'm
99% sure I have an infection, but this quack wrote me no scripts and
gave me no starters!! Then to add insult to injury, their office billed
my insurance with the wrong code (maternity problem) so the claim was
rejected!
Being resourceful, I asked a dentist friend of the family to call in a
prescription for Doxy, which I'm taking 100 mgs every 12 hours. Not
sure it's helping but at least I'll kill an infection if it exists.
Urologists are totally worthless in my opinion for most urological
problems.

I also have a uro who seems to not be very proactive. He told me I have
no sign of infection but all the same Doxy which I had to take as an
antimalarial (perscribed by my GP) for a trip to the Amazon helped a
lot. About a month after I stopped it my symptoms got worse. I went back
to see him and got him to give me another 60 days and again my symptoms
abated. I finished that about a week ago and am waiting to see what
happens.
Anyone else have experience with taking an antibiotic with no sign of an
infection where it made a big difference?

Practicing medicine is an art not science hence different opinions.
Keep looking, you will find a urologist whom you can trust. I got four
differing opinions, some by my choice and some because of insurance
changes. It turned out to be a good thing to see different doctors. I
lucked into the guy who finally helped me. Like most doctors,
urologists too specialize. Ask questions about your doctor's training
and practice. If he is in to fertility, he might not even know how to
treat you based on your symptoms. That has been my experience.
My urologist taught me this saying: "Some urologists are dick doctors
and some are just dicks."

I've seen two differnet Uros. One thought it was bacterial, one
non-bacterial. I was on Cipro for two months...It killed my stomach
and didnt do much. I'm off everything now...I think I have CPPS now
and am just trying to relax that area and hope it gets better on its
own...its been almost 6 months...NOT FUN.
