I went to my local pharmacy to have a .4 Prescription of Flomax filled
for the first time for my CPPS.  When I went to pick it up, they told
me that I should not take this drug as it is a sulfa based drug (I had
a childhood allergy to sulpha).  I looked at them funny, mentioning
nowhere on the net did it ever refer to a warning for a sulfonamide
allergy.  Was the pharmicist smoken crack?

P.S.  I had the script filled anyway and have the caps.

Your pharmacist is mistaken.
The gneric name for Flomax is Tamsulosin. It is NOT a sufa drug.  It is a Beta
Blocker. It can cause a reduction in blood pressure, and for this reason some
doctors advise starting with only a half dose for the first few days. When I
was using Flomax, it did help reduce my blood pressure, which was a good thing
since I run too high.
Hope this helps.

-Flomax is not a sulfa drug and people allergic to sulfa can take it
-Flomax is an alpha blocker, not a beta blocker
-Flomax does not lower blood pressure (unlike other alpha blockers).
In clinical trials there was no difference in blood pressure between
those taking flomax and those taking placebo
-You can't take a half dose of Flomax because it only comes in 1
strength as a timed release capsule
