Bladder Training

Does it really work? I don't know for sure whether I have an overactive
bladder but suspect so. Am peeing around 4-5 times at night. My prostate is
enlarged to around 45cc but my doctor doesn't think that this is the cause
as my flow is good.
. Ultrasounds shows my bladder has shrunk over the  3 years since I've had
this condition. So am working to hold myself back
from urinating to retrain my bladder. Wonder if anyone has had success with
this.

Thanks

Yep. Takes a lot of luck or a lot of willpower. My job means I often cant
stop to pee for a long time. Sometimes from 9AM to 4PM. Consequently I
accidentally trained my bladder. I have read that the bladder tends to get
more and more thin as you do this but don't know how true that is. In case
it is true, be wary how far you go. In any case, I was getting up less and
less all the time.

Have you ever seen a picture of a bladeer with all those muscles around it?
I'm no expert, but I don't think you could damage it so easily.

Yes I guess you are right - it is just that it has shrunk for suire over the
past few years

Thanks Colman - I will keep at it and hopefully get part way to what you
have done!

Much easier to do if you have your mind otherwise occupied. You don't tend
to think about it unless it is absolutely necessary. People say to stay away
from caffeine for good reasons but I never bothered with that and still got
to that point.

Makes good sense - have dropped caffeine couple of years ago - will make the
effort  - thanks Coilmam

No probs. Hope it all works for you.

Yes it does work. I read that if you are urinating more than 8 times a
day it is considered over active.  In my case I was also helped by
amitriptyline it helps with the urgance. By the way I have interstitial
cystitis or chronic pelvic pain syndrome / chronic prostatitis.

I really hate taking medicine for any reason at all to be honest. I guess I
always had that option if I went back to the doc but I hate the docs, too. I
was lucky that things worked out that way for me.

One thing - I do tend to have a lot more caffeine than average people who
don't have a health problem have and I am still to this point. I have
noticed that, contrary to everything I have read, it actually is HELPING me
with my irritable bowel syndrome by making it easier for me to crap. I
mention this because I don't really have any idea whether that ease of
crapping is in some way affecting the lack of need to pee but I do know
whenever I don't have that amount of caffeine, things are definitely worse
for me. Odd, hey?
