ERRATIC SYMPTOMS

I hope you guys can help.  About three months ago I woke up with  a
slight burning  on urination and soon thereafter some lower back pain
when I visited the doctor he said there were small traces o fblood in
the urine and said I may have passed a stone or have prostatitis due to
the excessive frequency to urinate and slow urine flow.  For the next
three months I was miserable with bladder discomfort, frequent
urination (every hour) and slow urine flow.  I was put on Cipro and
Doxy which did nothing and then Levaquin and prednisone which finally
seemed to help quite a bit.  I had a pelvic CT (normal), PSA test
(normal), Ultra sound (normal) and a test to se if I was emptying my
bladder (which was also normal).  The only test I did not have was the
cytsoscopy whihc I simply did not want to do for fear and also because
I have heard it can exacerbate things and really can not help but rule
out bladder cancer oor mass whihc would have shown up on the ultra
sound or Pelvic CT and my URO agreed if I was seeing some improvement
probbaly not necessary or very helpful.

Here is my delimma, I still have bouts of frequent urination and
changes in my urine flow  - some days its good and the very next day it
can be a dribble.  Also when I wake up I notice my urine flow is slow
and improves as the day progresses.  I take Proata-Q daily and watch my
diet (I dont drink or smoke or have coffee - never have.  I cut out all
sodas and never like spicy foods).

I nver experienced the golf ball feeling or pain that folks associate
with Prostatitis it is almost exclsuively urological (frequency and low
flow).

Any ideas why the urine flow changes from day to day and is mostly
restricted in the morning hours when I awake???  Do others have this
problem once the acute stage is over (for me the first three months)
and then settles into a more subtle but chronic condition.

The only othe rthing I want to mention that I have not seen in other
posts is that once this thing started I noticed my stools were actually
softer, lighter colored, and not well formed.  Is this a symptom as
well of prostatits or something else??

I would vbery much appreciate comments mostly on the erractic surinary
symptoms why one day frequncy is minimal and out put is good and the
next day I am urinating every 2 hours and the flow is a dribble.

Thanks for listening

I've had a very similar experience 2 years ago. It turned out to be
kidney stones, and it took probably 3 months for them to all pass.
They were not large enough to see on the IVP scan, and the back pain
was about an 8 on the 10 point scale, when they were coming down the
ureter tube.

Initially the primary care doc thought it was prostatitis, but a month
on Cipro did not help. The urologist put me on Flo-Max, and it really
helped. For some reason the Cipro ended an irritable bowel problem
though, which was a long time problem for me.

I take no meds at all now, and seem to be ok most of the time. One
thing I did notice on the last back x-ray was I had was a dramatic
lower spinal curve. I wonder if that can cause urinary problems? Also
can internal hemmoroids put pressure on the prostate gland, as they
are close to each other.

The whole area is one big design problem in my opinion. I say install
a teflon and stainless steel bladder and plumbing.
