High semen PH level and pregnant

Hi,
My husband and I just found out I am 4 weeks pregnant. He had a semen
analysis recently and they found his ph level to be high. Does anyone
know if the high ph level can be harmful to the sperm at conception (ie
birth defects)? He has an appt. in 3 weeks but we would like to know
now if someone can help.

Normal pH levels for semen range from 7.2 - 8.0. Abnormal levels can kill
the sperm. However, my guess is that the effects from the high pH level on
the sperm's vitality vs the integrity of the chromosomes within the sperm
are two different things.

Also, high semen pH can be a sign of baterial prostatitis, so please get
that checked out.
