Hi all,
I'm 34 years old and have been suffering from chronic prostatitis most
of my life (since my teens). My most prevelant symptom is blood in my
seamen, but occasionally I get lower abdominal/testicular pain as
well. The only thing that seems to be of help is cipro, however, it
doesnt last. As soon as I get a cold or flu my C.P. is back again.
Is there anything else I can do about this (other than taking round
after round of cipro)? Please spell out your answers in laymans terms
if possible, the acronyms you guys use on this group are a little over
my head. Also I live in Canada so some drug names are gonna be
different if you're in the states.

If you've seen your doc and are sure it is prostatitis, you can try
all the standard things such as avoiding caffeine, spicy foods, too
much sitting, etc. Saw Palmetto extract seems to help a lot of people
as do hot baths. Don't allow yourself to get too backed up sexually. I
do all the above and sometimes it just aches anyway so I've learned to
live with it.
FWIW
YMMV

I'd like to thank everyone for their advice. I certainly will be
trying everything out to see if I can find something that works. I
dont mind taking cipro when it really acts up but I'd rather it didnt
act up quite as often as it did. My wife and I are desperately trying
to concieve a child and having blood in my ejaculate really kills my
count. So again I'm hoping that the cipro knocks this out fast.
Avoiding spicy foods is going to be tough as these are 2 of my
favorite foods and caffinated drinks are big with me too. I've been
told to take zinc in small doeses and to increase my intake of
iso-flavanoids? Whats your opinion on these?

Man oh man that last part came out wrong! I meant to say that coffee
and spicey foods were 2 of my favorite things and giving them up is
nigh impossible. The rest makes sense I think.

I've tried pretty much everything, and what works best for me is beta-
sitosterol or cholestatin. They sell it in health food stores or over the
net. This stuff totally knocks down the discomfort in my prostate area.
Benadryl is also effective. Good luck.
