I guess I have chronic prostatitis because I have been having problems
for years now.  I have tried so many antibiotics and the only one that
worked was a sulfa-based antibiotic.  I felt completely normal on that
drug but at about 9 days I got a rash on my stomach area.  Doctor said
to stop taking it immediately, so I did and the prostatitis came back
immediately too. Anybody know any good antibiotics or can I take the
sulfa drug at a lower dose?

Hello,
I too am allergic to sulfa drugs. I took antibiotics for chronic
prostatitis for five years off and on. Last year I started having anxiety
attacks, and leg pain. I believe both were braught on by the long term
antibiotic use. since then I've stopped prescription antibiotics, and
started on natural antibiotics. Over the last three months I've taken large
quantities of vitamin C, along with vitamin A and E, and B complex. So far
I'm feeling better than I have for years, I still have some pain, and
urinary symptoms, but not as bad as before. (I've either been in the ER, or
to an urologist several times every winter, so far neither this winter.)
I've also not had a cold this winter, and everyone else in my family has.
I'm not saying this is a cure, but so far it has worked for me. My
theory is this, the vitamins have improved my immune system, which has
allowed me to fight off colds and sinus infections. I've always believed my
prostatitis flare ups were caused by a sinus infection and prostate
irritants (Sudafed, alchohol, caffiene). In other words I would get a sinus
infection, and at first I took Sudafed and ended up in the ER with
prostatitis. The next year I got a sinus infection, and drank alittle to
much at a party, two days later I was in the hospital a week with
prostatitis.
Check out www.doctoryourself.com for the recommended dosage. Be careful
with vitamin A and E however, they are not water soluble, and can build up
to toxic levels.

Hope this Helps,
Larry

Antibiotics eventually don't work well if you keep taking them endlessly. I
went that route and am living proof of it. I started taking very strong
doses of Saw Palmetto and it helps enormously though maybe once every 6-9
months I need to go back on antibiotics, too. I take Doxycycline when on
them but depending where you live it can be a bad alternative if my doctor
is right. You aren't supposed to go out in strong sunlight when on them, so
he said and her where I live, it doesn't come any other way, 12 months a
year!
