I just read your post about medical problems being caused by emotions,
and it wasn't fair for you to be attacked and criticized...I have had
kidney stones, back disc surgery, and now @52, I'm a type two
diabetic...
after urinating EVERY 2 hours for the past year, I got my doctor to do
a digital/rectal, and she says my prostate is huge. Now I'm on Cipro
with plans to see a urologist...I literally haven't slept for 8 hours
at a time for a year, so please take this into account when reading my
post!
Of course medical problems are mostly "material", as our bodies age,
encounter infections, break, etc.  BUT>
I firmly believe there can be an emotional factor. It's difficult to
prove; of course a person gets depressed when confronted with pain,
etc....
I feel that by stuffing my emotions I have stressed my prostate,
tensed my back, and maybe even set my diabetes in motion...
raised by a crappy family in Connecticut, I learned to eat all the
wrong things, becoming addicted to stuffing myself with food just for
the sensation of sleepiness.
Bouncing from a secure suburban home to homelessness made me
continually crave food, and I've never weighed over 180 pounds!
A life of manual labor tore at my back, but I never had sciatica until
I got into my last relationship, which is still extremely stressful...
now I've read in more than one place that stress plays a role in
prostate problems, and I believe it...
an expression comes to mind - "Get off my back"!     :+)
I know a few people who had all kinds of medical problems miraculously
disappear when they divorced....
rambling here (sorry)...I don't know the answers, but I try to
meditate as I'm laying in bed (can't sleep anyway)...I concentrate on
my breathing, or picture a calm ocean or woodsy scene....
Will people here claim that high blood pressure and cholesterol levels
are entirely due to diet/genetics?? I hear migraines are stress
related...
I don't know the answers, as we have our responsibilities, but maybe
becoming more careful in choosing our stressors in the future could
help save us a lot in many ways  - anyhow, this is a GREAT n.g. and
thanks!!   paul

It probably doesn't matter what role your emotional difficulties have in
your enlarged prostate (BPH, or benign prostate hypertrophy).  It's very
common -- indeed, prevalent -- in men over 50, including, I'm sure, lots of
emotionally healthy men.  The problem is what to do now.

Saw palmetto helps, but it's not a cure.  Even orthodox urologists recommend
it.  Beyond that, there doesn't seem to be much out there where the cure
isn't worse than the disease.  Proscar (an expensive and highly promoted
prescription drug) might also help (you should reasearch the statistics),
but it also has terrible side effects on your sexual functioning.

Don't confuse BPH with prostatitis, though.  You can have either one without
the other.  However, BPH is considered a possible cause of prostatitis.
