FWIW, I had  to see a Uro due to a small bump in the PSA.  DRE and
retest of PSA showed all clear. I mentioned to him about the chronic
prostatitis and he gave me some samples of Uroxatral to try.
Apparently it  is primarily for BPH but he said it sometimes provides
relief by calming a prostate that spasms. I think, "Whatever", but
they were free so why not. He said to call if they helped and he would
write a scrip. I took the two week supply and felt considerably
better. As soon as they ran out the achy prostate feeling came back in
a couple of days. I called the office and got a scrip for seven months
worth and take one per day. I'd say the improvement is about 75%.
Take this for what it is worth from a fellow sufferer. I'm not
interested in getting flamed by some of the sniveling cocksuckers that
ruin this board so if you have a problem with an amateur's honest
evaluation of an anecdotal experience, shove it up your a.s instead of
posting your tale of woe.
YMMV

Excellent post. This is what this NG is all about. You had a problem and
took some steps to deal with it. Got a script and it helped you.
This is what we want to hear. I congratulate you on moving on as some people
have trouble doing that and are stuck on cultures and how bad doctors are.
They have trouble turning the page.
We are all amateurs and good doctors are hard to come by. That is a given!!!

Thanks for the info. I may try and get my uro to write me a script for
some of this stuff.
Thanks to for advice to the "Roberts" in this group.
To damn much PC crap going about these days.

There's still hope for you still gothika, you made no mention about how
terrible the VA is and how doctors suck. I hope continued success.

Chronic prostatitis ( or chronic pelvic syndrome?)  seems to be my
situation. Like you, I have been taking Hytrin for several months
which has helped. I tried Xatral for a while but I found it was giving
me terrible headaches. The Hytrin works just as well for me with no
side effects. I find I'm really good while standing, but sitting at my
computer for extended periods of time sometimes makes me want to void
on an irregular basis. I hope this burns itself out soon.

Have you experienced any side effects?

None so far. It's been a bit over a month. I have noticed  that
instead of the old routine getting up 3 or 4 times at night for
dribbles, I get up once or twice for what is more or less a reasonable
pee.
If I do notice any side effects, positive or negative, I will post for
sure.

Uroxatral is an Alpha Blocker (alfuzosin hydrochloride) used to treat BPH.
Some alpha blocker treat high blood pressure, some BPH, some both.

Some others are.....
Hytrin (terazosin hydrochloride), hbp & BPH
Cardura (doxazosin mesylate), hbp &BPH
Flomax (tamsulosin hydrochloride), BPH
Minipress (prazosin hydrochloride), hbp

Alpha-blockers help relax smooth muscle tissue that is found in the prostate
and the bladder neck. By relaxing this smooth muscle tissue, urine flows out
of the bladder more easily.
