Glad I came across this group.
Here is the deal. 32 years old. About a month ago I noticed pain after
urination, burning sensation. This was always after urination not during. I
also had frequency of urination. I went to my GP who put me on doxy fearing
Chlamydia or gonno. Tests were negative. Pain got worse while on doxy and
they put me on Cipro. Seemed to get better for a few days. Then I started to
develop pain the testicals. Referred to a urologist, ultra sound performed,
nothing significant noted, some calcification on testes and small epididymal
cyst and I was told that was not abnormal. All urine tests were negative.
Digital exam performed and uro noted "spongy" prostate, said it was
prostatis and put me on 3 more weeks of Cipro. Total Cipro time is now 5
weeks. I am still having this burning sensation but the testical pain has
resolved. The feeling is almost as if you stop the urine stream midway
though. On a scale of 1 - 5 I would put this as a 1 or 2 and sometimes not
at all. This comes and goes. I will have hours of no pain and then out no
where it will start.
I have not exhibited any other symptoms associated with any class of
prostatis (fever, back and leg pain etc). I am wondering if they just made
this diagnosis to get me out the door because the burning sensation is still
there most days. I have been able to have sex and there is no pain
associated with that.
The main question I have is that with 5 weeks of Cipro should I still be
having an issue and maybe need to get a few more weeks of Cipro or should I
go back to the uro and ask for them to look for something different that
prostatitis?
There is no rhyme or reason as to when this "flares up". I can say that I do
not want to go much longer with this because anything in that area is
bothersome. It is definitely better than it was before Cipro so I think I
may be on the right track. But reading some of these posts there seems to
wealth of practical knowledge on these subjects and I would like to see what
others think.
Thank you in advance for any assistance.
I kind of had some of the same type of symptoms you are experiencing,
and was put on Cipro too. It turned out to be kidney stones though,
causing the irritation. Cipro has some anti-imflammitory properties,
so it can help relieve some of the discomfort. If you do in fact have
prostatitis, it can take months to finally get better. The whole
genital/urinary system is one bad design in my opinion. God should
have used stainless steel and teflon for parts.

I agree on the design. Way too many moving parts! We can put a man on the
moon but can't figure out a way to keep pee from burning!!
Stone, huh? If this does not get better I may have the doc look into that.
The one thing for sure is I am more familiar with my insides than any health
class I every took could teach me.
