Ive posted here several times over the past few years about my CP.
Turns out it may actually be a bladder problem.
After years of bad uro's and repeated courses of ABX's.(Antibiotics
actually do relieve  the symtoms of burning, frequency and pelvic pain
but only as long as I stay on them.)
I finally got a Urologist that seemed to care. He had an ultrasound of
my bladder and found that I wasn't voiding the bladder which at my age
shouldn't have been a problem. I also had a bladder that was much
lower in my abdomen than normal.
I'd been mistaking bladder pain for prostate.
I'm scheduled for a cytoscopy in a couple of more weeks.
I'm currently on Doxy which really helps reduce the pain and get my
flow rate back up as well as Flomax and phenazopyridine for burning.
I've just started the regimen so it's too early to tell if the latter
two are doing anything but the Doxycycline is helping so I remain
hopeful.
Thing is I'm still convinced this is an infection of some sort as I
have other symptoms as well.
I have chest congestion with dark green phlegm as well as pain and
swelling im my lymph glands as well as swollen eardrums with pain.
Mild fever is also present.
when I take the Doxy for a period all symptoms recede thought they
never really go away. Then return after 3-4 days off the ABX's.
The doctors have run the typical tests, urine, blood etc... with no
remarkable indications outside an occasional slight elevation in WBC
count.
I did contract Tuberculosis several years ago but by the time they
tested me and found it I'd almost completely recovered.
I tested positive on the skin test and negative on the sputum and did
six months of INH as a safe guard.(Which by the way made me weak
during the entire 6 months, I've never recovered fully from that as I
now have chronic fatigue.)
I've had chronic lung infections ever since, always having to take
ABX's to recover.
Given that I have a question or two.
Could it be possible that the TB colonized in my urinary
tract, prostate or testicles?(I've been tested and am now infertile, as
well as having painful swelling from time to time in my testicles
during the worst bouts with the CP. Or whatever it is.)
Or could it be some other aggresive bacteria.(I have a reduced immune
function from all the other meds I have to take to manage chronic
pain. Advanced arthritis in my spinal column and other injured joints
from a near fatal  accident I had years ago.)
They've only run the most cursory tests mostly WBC on my urine to
check for bacteria. No actual cultures of any phlegm or fluids.
(I'm stuck with the VA which is like a really bad HMO.)
Since this all started back in 96 my ejaculate has been greatly
reduced. It used to be nasty yellow, stinky and very lumpy with large
fat bodies.
With the near constant ABxs it's changed color from yellow to a scummy
gray green, still have fat bodies and it's gotten a lot drier. Almost
like slime.(gets even worse of the ABXs.)
Lately the pain in my lymph gland and inner ears has gotten worse and
in the past week have noticed that I'm starting to spot blood from my
ears and sinuses while I sleep.(Wife noticed it first but was afraid
to say anything, to keep from worrying me.)
The bleeding isn't severe, actually light. 2-3 mm diameter spots on my
pillow. Still it's not a good thing to have going on.
The Doxy is helping to keep it moderated.(I take 250mg tid)
If I miss a dose by more than a couple of hours the pain comes back
though.(This is spite of the fact that I take percoset and morphine
sulfate for my back pain  which one would think would knock out these
symptoms as well.)
I'm not a Hpyochondriac. I don't even like to take my meds.(wife is
always there to make sure I do.)
Can anyone here give me their take on whether this might be a
infection or what?
Thanks for any reply
Harry

I don't know man, but it certainly does sound like some type of infection
given the description you gave. Remember, I'm not a doctor so take my
comments with caution. By the way, I sure know what you mean in terms of
having the chronic pain. Hey! Have you considered trying some natural
remedies instead of antibiotics? I have a funny feeling that the antibiotics
your currently taking won't  completely heal you. I suspect they will only
keep some symptoms at bay and you might fall into the trap of having to rely
on them. That could create more problems. But, what can we do, right? I'm
sorry, but did they ever identify an organism? Anyhow, there are some
natural supplements out there that can act as antibiotics and antifungals
and they might be a little less harmful than your current regimen. You could
try 35% hydrogen peroxide baths, the garlic clove protocol, grapefruit seed
extract, ( manufacturer nutribiotic ), oreganol, ( manufacturer oreganol ),
purchase yourself a vegetable juicer, ( jack lalane juicer ), and have
yourself a few glasses of pure fruit/vegetable juice each day, ( eg.
spinach, carrot, green pepper, parsley, beet, orange, rasberry juice ), buy
a good probiotic with L. acidophilus, take quercetin, ( manufacturer
prostaQ ), and get yourself a Brita charcoal water filter to reduce the
amount of chlorine and other contaminents in your drinking water. Those are
some of the best natural methods of treating a suspected infection and all
the information regarding each protocol is searchable in the prostaitis
google groups. You could have your doctor look over you while giving any of
the above a try if it makes you feel more comfortable.

Don't worry. We know your not. There are others just like you.

Boy! This condition sucks :-(

Thanks. I do drink distilled water and eat a fair amount of broccoli.
My wife feeds me a lot of natural supplements, thoughmost don't really
do that much.
Up to this point the urologists have refused to take any fluid samples
at all.
One would think a simple gram stain of my prostate fluid would tell
them what I might have.
Like I said they take as urine sample give it a spin and check for
base imbalances.(high WBC etc...)
The ultrasound of my bladder showed that I wasn't voiding completely.
At my age a sign of something wrong.
all I can think are obstructions(passed kidney stones, bladder
stones.) or possibly a tumor or maybe a constriction.
I'm not freaking out or getting upset. That serves no good end.
Just have to wait for the cystoscopy.
BTW is a cysto very painful?(I'd think it has to be.)
Or do they sedate you when they do it?
I can't imagine anyone with an irritated/inflamed urethra sitting
still for that.
I've gotten more than a little gun shy over painful tests, in fact I
think there barbaric.
I've had to have lower and upper GI's every few years over my life and
they just seem to get harder to endure.(My family has a history of
colon/intestinal cancer and disorders and I started presenting
symptoms early in life.)
I've also had to go through EMG and NCS anually and with severe nerve
damage that just gets worse with age these tests can be agonizing.
I understand why my grandfathers and uncles opted to not go the
painful route of fighting  their cancers in their old age.
When the medical treatment is as painful as the illness who wants to
go through several years of suffering just to make it to 65-70.
All I can do at this point is take my meds and see what develops.
I am getting a little relief with the flomax and the anti-sting
medicine. Tho' the pain medicine makes me pee dark orange and that is
freaky.

> Thanks. I do drink distilled water

A step in the right direction regarding the water, ( regular tap water has
way to much chlorine ), but I haven't heard great thing's about distilled
water. Due to the purification to make it distilled, I think it becomes
electrically dead? If I'm not mistaken, our bodies are constantly sending
and receiving electrical signals involving our nerves and it's the water in
our bodies that allow for this to happen. If the water your drinking is
electrically dead it does not facilitate the electrical process and
subsequent nerve/tissue repair. If you live in an area with a good water
reserve regular tap water should be sufficient, ( minus the chlorine and
other impurities ), that's why I recommended a good charcoal water filter as
an optioninstead. Don't quote me on all this though.

Depends on the doctor and how good he is? Two types of cysto's, ( one with
hydrodistension and one without ), and two types of scopes, ( rigid and
flexible ).

The first cysto they put you under. This is with hydrodistension and will
usually use a rigid scope. This one can hurt a lot. That's why you go under.
It's a serious procedure and has caused residual damage for some. You should
ask your doctor if your getting this one and why?? Usually they are only
done to check for intersitial cystitis, ( someone correct me of I'm wrong ).

The second cysto is simpler, and although uncomfortable, usually doesn't
cause any serious pain. Your awake. It's over pretty quick. If you can ask
for a flexible scope.

I'm not a huge fan of these procedures because they rarely help in
treatment. Your doctor knows best however. You can learn all about this
doing a google search with some of the words in this post. You'll find
opinion really does vary.

Good luck.

The doc said somthing about using a tiny camera so I'd asume it'll be
a flexible.
