anon2u - 07 Feb 2004 07:40 GMT I've had an infection for 6 months, my doctor thinks its in my prostate. Could someone with some knowledge maybe have a read and suggest what my next course of action should be? My symptoms:
1.5 years ago Very sore throat on right side for 3 weeks, still gives me occasional slight pain (diagnosed as tonsil tissue left from childhood tonsilectomy). Lesions on inner thigh in creases of groin, no itching or pain but sometimes light tingling in surrounding area. There are a couple on each side, starting in the crease and going 2-4 inches down the thigh. They have some lines running across them and are very soft, not firm like the other skin. They seem deep into the skin. When I stretch the skin in the area the right way the lesions become recessed (set back in the skin). Diarrhea every 2-3 months lasting 1-8 weeks at a time. Migratory glossitis on tongue (undiagnosed).
6 months ago Dull pain that comes/goes as well as sudden sharp, stabbing pain in testicles, urethra, penis, bladder, and prostate. Present most often in testicles. Sometimes sharp pain in random spots throughout body. Very light discharge, light burning/irritation while urinating. Underneath tip of penis is pale (this is the first symptom I noticed, before pain), area around urethral opening is dark and blotchy, area of foreskin that covers urethra is pale/depigmented. Symptoms started immediately after sexual encounter with girl who complains of discharge, similar pain, and recurring yeast infections.
Medication with no effect, in order taken, in the last 4 months -Canesten cream -Ampicillin -Ciprofloxacin -Eryc (erothromycin) -Viaderm cream -Metronidazole -Tetracycline
I've been tested for chlamydia/gonorrhea, several urine cultures, blood tests, renal ultrasound didnt show anything abnormal. I've been seeing doctors since week 1 and nothing has helped at all, I'm about to lose it. What should I do? Could it be mycological or viral, since antibiotics do nothing?
niceshyguymiami - 08 Feb 2004 04:47 GMT You need to try Bactrim

I got some kind of infection-- after sexual encounter (with condom). Tried metrogel (Metronidazole), Doxy, Zithromax, Cipro, Floxin, Keflex... Doxy and Zithromax worked a little. It was the Keflex that cured the whole thing. Unfortunately I resumed sex with boyfriend (doctors wouldn't treat him), and infection returned(i used a condom!). Keflex the 2nd time did NOTHING. I'm also going out of my mind, as nothing shows up on tests. What kind of tests do your doctors do? How do they test for mycoplasma--in semen? Did you use a condom during that initial encounter? By the way, traditional chinese medicine has helped me, but hasn't cured. also, boyfriend now might have retrograde ejaculation--related? Good luck.

Tried metrogel [quoted text clipped - 13 lines] > >Is this a legit poster? Odd writing style and not sure if it's a him or her? Sounds like a female. There is a female equivalent of prostatitis. Sounds like the same problem I'm having inregards to the bacterial infection. I've been through most of the ABX's available and they either don't kill it or I'm allergic to the medicine. I've been on the doxy for just over a week and while I'm seeing some clearing in my lungs my bladder/prostate still hurts like hell. The phenazopyradine I'd been taking worked to some extent to ease the burning on urination but the color got to looking too much like blood. (During the intial 2-3 doses my urine was nearly black in color and only lightened after a coupleof days. Contraindications said to only use if for two days when taking doxy so I quit.
For the original poster: Get your boyfriend tested! urinalysis is in my opinion useless as the docs will always say it show nothing. But what else can we do? Hell if you have to abstain from vaginal intercourse for a while, or at least until you get a handle on this infection.(I'm still of the opinion that my current wife gave me this infection as I was clean and healthy until we started sexual relations. Come to find out she's had chronic pelvic infections for years, didn't bother to warn me though.)
rick - 15 Feb 2004 17:17 GMT Yes, I'm a female.
WHAT kind of chronic pelvic infections did your wife have? Urinary? Uterine? Which bacteria? Which antibiotics?
I have sex rarely now with boyfriend. Boyfriend developed what seems to be retrograde ejaculation in past year. I sent his semen and urine to Dr. Fugazzatto's lab. Showed nothing. My urine sample showed enterococcus. May try new antibiotic for that--if it works, of course I'll try to get abx for boyfriend. (Trying to find docs to give me abx though, since regular cultures come up negative) Boyfriend will go to urologist, but I assume that nothing will show up. Any suggestions for specific tests to find bacteria?
I will probably go for more invasive testing of uterine lining/bladder (maybe)soon. *****

Uterine? Which bacteria? Which antibiotics? I don't know what kind of bacteria. Just told me she'd had a past histiry of chronic infections and then she didn't break down and tell me until I told her I'd go to her doctor with a court order. It was a urinary tract infection with occasional tubal infection. My semen volume has dropped to about half and it's gotten pretty skunky as of late. Clear, slimey, grayish green in color with dark yellow fat bodies. Even I can't stand it. All the tests they run detect no bacteria.(urinalisys.) No elevated white cell count but I do improve with ABX therapy. Mostly my lung congestion clears and the imflammation in my inner ears goes down. I slated for a cystoscopy this Fri. I hope to hell they find something that can be treated so I can put the past 7 years of pain behind me. Good luck on your case. Let me know how it comes out.

It's not just fatigue--it's like a viral syndrome...like monomucleosis. I also have inner ear probs, and TMJ probs which get worse when pelvic infection is worse. The person I got the pelvic infection from also had a history of non-gonococcal urethritis but didn't tell me (even when I asked about his history).
I feel for you. Did you get a PCR test? ARe those tests accurate>? Did they test your semen?
I can't find any good doctors. I'm in New York City. Have you heard of anyone there for me/my boyfriend?
Good luck Friday.

I have inner ear problems as well. painful swelling in the inner ear with ringing noises. recedes with doxycycline. What' TMJ?(excuse my denseness, I take pain killers than induce forgetfulness. Street name dopamax.) I went off my ABX's saturday just to give my system a break, I get pain during urination if I stay on them too long. Woke up monday afternoon with massive chest congestion and headache/fatigue. Whatever bug I have it's as aggressive as hell to come back after skipping 3 doses.
>The person I got the pelvic infection from also had a history of >non-gonococcal urethritis but didn't tell me (even when I asked about >his history). Just like some partners to do this. Mine still won't admit she might be culpable in this.(even tho' she still has to medicate to fight off fungal infections and has vaginal inflammation about half the time.)
>I feel for you. Did you get a PCR test? ARe those tests accurate>? >Did they test your semen? I go to the VA, which is like a really bad HMO. They refuse to treat untill an illness becomes debilitating or life treatening. Won't even consider testing my semen, says it cost too much. All attempts to extract prostate fluid fail. always dry and I hurt dreadfully for days and tend to bleed. I've had trusses that just show calcification. Again what's a PRC test?
>I can't find any good doctors. I'm in New York City. Have you heard of >anyone there for me/my boyfriend? Don't despair, doctors who care about this kind of illness are hard to find. I went through a half dozen uro's who weren't worth a crap. My current one is practically a kid, but he care's and listens, so that puts him at the top as far as I'm concerned. Post the question here with "looking for a good NY doctor" in the header.

Come to find out she's had >> >> chronic pelvic infections for years, didn't bother to warn me though.) rick - 17 Feb 2004 16:02 GMT TMJ-temporomandibular joint syndrome--pain and swelling in jaw joint.
I know a guy who has been on doxy for years for prostatitis. He also has Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (I met him at a support group.) He also contracted prostatitis after a sexual encounter. I haven't been in touch with him; last I heard he was afraid to take stronger abx, but docs didn't want to keep giving him doxy for so many years.
PCR test--to tell you the truth, not sure exactly what it is. Possibly a more sensitive test.
Dr. Fugazzatto: He did semen analysis (for $25 donation), but not sure if he's taking on new cases (I think he mentions other labs to send specimens in his website). Not sure if he's credible. His website--http://pw1.netcom.com/~jewel3/uti/bacteria.html Here's a website that discusses him--http://www.moonstar.com/~icickay/starproject.html
So far, Dr. F has not identified any bacteria in my boyfriend's semen (at first, indeterminate staph, but re-test was negative) or urine. Wants bf to do one more urine test. He found enterococcus in my urine--Trying to get doc to give me meds for this--Macrodantan. At same time, need more invasive testing to see what's going on in uterus/tubes etc.
If they could get prostate fluid, would they test for bacteria? If so, why would semen test be so much more expensive? "Trusses that just show calcification"--can you explain to me what that means, if you have time. All attempts to extract prostate fluid fail. always dry and I hurt
> dreadfully for days and tend to bleed. I've had trusses that just show > calcification. I go to a trad. chinese medical dr. (he does more than acupuncture) He helps greatly w/symptoms, but no cure yet. After he works on pelvic areas, TMJ pain, and clogging in ears lessens.

Calcification: hard rock like deposits in the ducts of the prostate. Not actually calcium though, most likely dried prostatic fluid? Or some other form of blockage due to infection or whatever. Doc said I had alot. there have been cases where biological infection colonize behind these blockages to avoid the ABX's. Very hard to get rid of if so. What get's me is they'll use a Liptotripter to break up kidney, liver and gall stones yet claim it's useless against prostate stones and calcifications.

> I also have inner ear probs, and TMJ probs which get worse when pelvic > infection is worse. I have a few solid tips for the TMJ problem. First, go to a dentist and get a mouth guard. This is very important. Your probably grinding your teeth at night and it's due to the stress and symptoms of CPPS. A mouth guard will reduce the soreness one experiences in the jaw, ear, and facial area and help protect your teeth from slowly withering away as a result of that grinding. This is not a total solution to the problem of TMJ, but believe me, it's a very good measure to deal with it.
Next, if you are dealing with an ear infection and this is contributing to your TMJ, then obviously you must eradicate the infection in your ear for there to be any resolution to the problem. It's not only the ear that will have the infection, but also the nasal cavity. Both need attention. A very good home remedy for this is Nutribiotic's Grapefruit Seed Extract. No! I don't sell, work, or advertise, for Nutribiotic, ( my arms crossed in a defensive manner....lol.. ), it's just that I have used their liquid concentrate and it cured my sinusitis, ( nasal congestion for many years ), after just the first application and it may be of benefit for others.
Here are the instructions:
Ear Rinse. Thoroughly mix 4-10 drops of NutriBiotic GSE with 1 oz. of glycerin or alcohol. Apply 1-2 drops of this solution in affected ear 1-2 times daily. Use as often as needed. Do not use full strength in ears.
Nasal Rinse. Mix 2 drop of NutriBiotic GSE with 2 oz. of water. With your head tilted back, fill each nostril with a full eye dropper's worth of the mixed solution. Swing head forward and down (head is now upside down) to force solution up into nasal passages. Return head to the normal upright position and allow nasal passages to drain. Do not inhale through the nose. Always dilute.
Here is the website and a picture of the exact product, ( Liquid Concentrate ), that worked for me. http://www.nutribiotic.com/GSELiquid.htm The Liquid Concentrate is the best because you are not limited in it's use. You don't need to buy this online. As a matter of fact, I don't recommend anyone practice purchasing products online due to privacy concerns. So, if you wanted to give this cheap method a go, NutriBiotic's Grapefruit Seed Extract can probably be found at a local health food store in your own area. Not all stores carry it though, so you might have to call around to find it?
> I feel for you. Did you get a PCR test? ARe those tests accurate>? PCR is a HUGE improvement over regular culturing methods, but one of the controversies lies in that is is very sensitive and may pick up commensuals giving a false positive. For this reason, it really depends on who it is that does the PCR procedure, but don't fool yourself, it has the potential to really help and it's about time the researching world incorporated this into their standard practice and everyday means for the benefit of all us sufferers. Mr. Curtis Nickel? You out there?
Good luck to you!

Why doesnt anyone believe there is "no bacteria" when they have the urine tests done? I had slight burning on urination, on and off for like 2 weeks, then had an IVP done, after that i never had the burning on urination. 2 weeks after, i began to have a slight discharge, clear, and was told my prostate was slightly enlarged. i had 2 urinalysis, 1-2 urine cultures, chlamydia swab test, all the STD tests, and semen analysis / culture, all negative. I dont know what to do, but i believe there is no bacteria, am i wrong????
Dont know what my next step is.

I have burning on urination that only responds to ABX's. Yet all my tests are negative as well. Try to get your Doc to let you try some ABX's and see how you respond. If you do get positive response bear in mind that it might not be a cure-all as you can't stay on them forever.(I've been on virtually all the usual antibioitics for the past 8 years and only get relieff if I'm on them.) They do carry bad side effects and I can no longer take any quinalones or sulfanomides as they are pure poison to my system now that I've taken them for so long. Taking a course will let you know if the problem is bacterial though.
Makaveli - 01 Mar 2004 16:57 GMT > >> "rick" < wrote.. > >> [quoted text clipped - 27 lines] > taken them for so long. > Taking a course will let you know if the problem is bacterial though. Gothika,
I dont have a burning on urination. I have a slight discharge. That is my only symptom. I think its because the prostate is slightly inflammed. During bowel movements, I get a slight discharge. Seems to go away and come back some days. Or possible from lack of ejaculation, 1 time a week for me. Well, if tests are negative for bacteria, and you are going to a big clinic or lab. for results, and trust them, then maybe its not bacterial. What exactly are your symptoms???
