Androgel testosterone

I was diagnosed testosterone deficient and prescribed Androgel
testosterone.  On the second day of treatment my prostate started to
hurt bad.  I'm only 44, and I had similar but less painful prostatitis
5 years ago when I took Androstenedione as an athletic performance
enhancer.

Has anyone else experienced prostatitis when taking testosterone
treatments?

My endo and uro say they have never heard of problems before.  I can't
stop the testosterone because my level is rock bottom (165, normal is
400).  Damned if I do and damned if I don't.

I'm wondering if Proscar would help nullify the testosterone on my
prostate.

Hello,
I was diagnosed with prostatitis before hypogonadism. I was on Androgel
for two years. When I first started, my prostate did hurt some, but cleared
up. I did have several prostatitis attacks while on the Androgel. Has your
endo tested your pituitary?
After the two years of Androgel my hematocrit rose to dangerous levels,
so I was taken off the Androgel. The next three months were the worse of my
life (constant fatigue, sore muscles, no sexual desire) and my prostatitis
flared up (my PSA went up to 17). This happens (I was told) because your
body stops producing testosterone while your on the Androgel, so when you
stop, you have zero testosterone until your testes start working again.
Which, they say will only go back to where they were before the Androgel,
but my last testosterone test was normal. And, I now feel better than with
the Androgel.
At the risk of being flamed, what has seem to help me was not the
antibiotics that the Doctor's gave me, but high doses of vitamin C, and
euchinea. I also believe the constant dose of Androgel was holding back, so
to speak. I was only good for sex once a week, and could not improve my
exercise routine. Since being off the Androgel, and have my testes working
again, sex and exercise have been better.

Hope this Helps,
Larry

It sounds like you have problems different from mine.  My pituitary
tested fine.  I had prostatitis years before the Androgel, but it was
not too bad when I started the Androgel.  In retrospect, I think the
prostatitis was not bad because my testosterone was so low.  When the
Androgel restored my testosterone, my dihydrotestosterone (DHT) went
back to normal and that's what can cause my prostate to swell.
My psa is .2, I'm fatigued, but still feel sexy.
My idiot uro didn't have a clue.  I had to do my own research.
Good luck to us all.

These doctors are mostly out of touch. I recently had a tumor removed from my
parathyroid and the endo didn't even notice that my calcium was sky high. I
was at my doctors the other day and my testosterone is "35" that's not a mis
print 35. He showed no concern.I was supposed to call this Endo office asap
because my test was 35."He'll get you right in!" Well I called and he gave me
an appointment for Sat July 18th. Today is June 5th. I think it may be more
serious than July 18th...
