I have utilized cold medications for the last few years on and off on
a regular basis for cold and sleeping.  Could this night medications
that have been used long-term cause enough irritation to effect the
bladder-neck region/prostate thus mimicing prostatitis?  I notice when
I take contac or tylenol night cold medications my prostate seems to
cause pain.

Is this pain a result of an already underlying prostate
problem/infection or could it be an aggrevating catalyst around the
bladder neck region?

I can only speak for myself and relate things I have read about
others. Any kind of antihistamine, especially OTC, really irritates my
prostate and produces all the usual symptoms of a flare-up.

I guess my question is why does it do this?  Does it irritate an
already inflammed prostate or could it be another source like a
bladder-neck problem.  When I introduce self-massage it only provides
minor perineal relieft and antibiotics at this point produce little
effect.

Timothey--------I believe antihistamines cause spasms in the muscles of
the bladder neck impairing the flow of urine or in men with BPH can
block the flow of urine.
