I belong to the U of M cancer study... first year in they found a huge Polyp
and saved my life. My PSA that first year was 2.9.within the border. 2 nd year
it went up to 4.7 or something...I had ultrasound and needle biopsy...no
cancer. 3rd year it was up to 7.2 and again I had Ultrasound and biopsy...no
cancer. 4th year I had quite eating hot peppers thinking it had something to do
with my high PSA ..it went down to 3.7....but the urologist said lets do it
anyway...again.Ultrasound and biopsy...no cancer... Just got my results back
for the 5th year..4.6 PSA.. Guess what my Doc is gonna wanna do? I'm tired of
it. My symtoms are: 25% of the time spray or dribble. Maybe less... I sometimes
have a burning sensation when I ejaculate... I sometimes feel like my right
testicle is sore...any suggestions out there? Marty
Hello,
Fours years ago my PSA went to 7.9, I had a rectal ultrasound and
biopsy, no cancer, just calcium deposits. After several months of different
types of antibiotics it went back down to around 2. This year my PSA went to
8.7, after a month of Cipro it went up to 9.6, so my uro did a cytoscopy and
biopsy, no cancer. After being on Cipro for another month it went to 16. I'm
now taking Geocillin, and will have my PSA tested again Tuesday. So
apparently, an infection can cause a high PSA, but only responds to certain
types of antibiotics? If my PSA is still high Tuesday, I'll get another
biopsy.
Hope this helps,
Larry

Re: PSA and prostatitis.
From personal experience I can tell you that prostatitis can cause an elevated
PSA. It will be good when the new more accurate blood test for prostate cancer
is officially announced. Has anyone heard when this will be available?
