Acute I guess, there were no symptoms of anything, then out of the
blue I felt a slight burning when I urinated, and didn't think much of
it until the next day when the burning was much more intense. I made
an appointment with the Dr.. He took a cotton swab from penis sent it
off and confirmed to me that I had chlamydia and prescribed me
doxacycaline(sp).

You've either had chlamydia for a long time or just received it. You'll have
to decide how to deal with this issue and your girlfriend, but just by what
you write, it seems you were fine and then did have something resembling the
beginning of an infection that was getting worse and would have became worse
had you not been treated so quickly.
But, why post here? Do you have a history of prostatitis or chronic pelvic
pain? That might come in to the equation as well.

I'm not a doctor but I thought the treament these days for chlamydia is a single 1000mg dose, 4x250
mg tablets usually, possibly followed by 5 - 7 days of doxycycline, erythrocin, or whatever.
