Has anyone had bio feed back before.  I'm trying it now, clenching my
buttocks then releasing.  Apparently I have very tense muscles which
were recorded onto a computer from this probe up my backside.

That isn't bio feedback whatever they are telling you. Bio Feedback, in
reality, is the attempt to consciously change things in your body by willing
it to do so. People can already do that to a certain extent. Have you ever
had a racing heart and willed it to calm? Have you ever felt rage enough to
do someone harm and quietened the emotion (which is also quietening the
body)?

It works to an extent even better than those examples if you keep at it. I
get unaccountable pains in my thighs and lower legs often and there is no
rhyme or reason as to why. I can, if allowed the time, concentrate on them
and make them go away. It is also a step in the direction towards honest to
goodness meditation and not the bullshit meditation you see on TV with some
dipstick sitting with eyes closed thinking they are meditating.

It takes practice and it takes desire to do it but it is beneficial to start
on the true bio feedback.

Hi, I am a currently going through Biofeedback and stimulation. I went through
6 mo of testing and taking all kinds of antibiotics and not one doctor was able
to find any infection. Test included PCR testing of Prostate secretions ,semen
cultures as well as multiple urine cultures. All came back clean. So now my
diagnosis is:
                                         (Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome
Cattagory IIIa)

     or
                                                                   (Prost
atitis IIIa)
Same thing I'm told. My symptoms include Lower back pain, pain in upper
thighs, burning on scrotum and penis, and
irritation at tip of penis.

So far I have had two sessions. The first one the PT used up 35 minutes of my
time explaning the proceedures to me.
(They should have mailed me an info packet about it) then they had me put a
probe up my butt and one on my stomach.
I sat in a chair and watched the computer monitor. It showed that my pelvic
floor muscles baseline was at a constant
5.5Mamp. The normal being below 2.5Mamp. When the computer said contract I
would try abdominal breathing and
contract my pelvic floor muscles. I am having a hard time doing this without
involving my stomach muscles which you are not supposed to use your stomach
muscles. But when the computer says contract you hold it for about 5 sec the
relax.
They had me do this a dozen times or so.

Then they had me lay down on my side and put a different probe in my butt which
delivered 9.5mamps of current to my
pelvic muscles. It would do this for about 30sec and then stop for 10sec and
repeat.

The PT says that my pelvic floor muscles being in spasm is an "Unserstatement"
But I wonder how much of that spasm was do to me having that probe up my butt.
It really was quite annoying to me.

If your in the same boat as I'm in maby we can compare notes. I have 4 more
sessions to go. Doing 2 a week.

I have the same opinion, with a probe up your backside of course your
muscles will be tense!

Another question i have is I've only had two sessions of this
exercise, and is it just your the clenching of your muscles in your
backside (your arse) that constitutes pelvic floor exercise ?  Are
kegel exercises just clenching your arse muscle and relaxing ?  I
found that the electrical stimulation helped my nerves or something.
But this isn't a permanent cure so i have to learn how treat myself or
exercise for myself.  And this treatment is expensive.
Unkownpelvicpain - 09 Nov 2003 23:37 GMT
Yes, Kegel's are contracting your pelvic muscles as you would if you stopped
your urine midflow.
I am going to my 3rd session tommorrow.

Blueboy, How long were you hooked up to the stimulation machine?
My session was only about 12 minutes. I've read about other people getting at
least 20 minutes.
I am going to ask for a longer period next time.

don't waste your money or time on the stupid a.s exercises.
now listen to me. here is what you need to do.
your problem is a pinched nerve in your back.
there is only 1 exercise that will help you.
while standing upright, arch your back as much as you can,
at the same time squeeze your stomach muscles as hard as you
can and hold it as long as you can.do this repeatedly many times a day.
it will probably hurt like hell when you first do it but keep on doing it.
here is one other thing you can try.
go to walmart and buy a ball that is approximately 5 inches high that will
 support your weight
lay on the ball placed at the base of your spine.totally relax for a few
minutes then begin squeezing your abdominal muscles as hard as you can.
again it will probably hurt but not as bad as what you are going through now.

 good luck,swantzswanson

I'm doing this exercise for an impotence problem which stemmed from
prostatitis.  Usually the kegel exercises are for pain but I'm trying
them for my problem.  I also found that massage of the muscles around
prosatate helped a lot and it could be that i have a trapped nerves or
something because the muscles are in spasm.  I think this problem may
be related to a hip problem which causes has pinched a nerve in my
hip, i don't know as i had the problem 18 months before the impotence
problem came on.

might not be a bad idea to try some valium, nortriptyline, or amytriptyline
downside is they make you feel as if you have a hangover in the morning.
i did read about one guy who had hip replacement surgery and he said his
 problem cleared up.
