Do you know the difference between BPH and prostatitis?
Each has his own NG.  One involves older people and the other involves
younger ones usually.  A twenty year old doesn't want to hear about BPH.

Sometimes BPH can make a fellow more suceptible to prostatitis.  It would be
interesting to know if any study has found that thermal or radio therapy helps
reduce the incidence of prostatitis.

So you are saying prostatitis incidence increases with age?
What is the mean age of BPH vs prostatitis?
Laser therapy is used to vaporize prostate tissue in BPH and in a skilled
surgeon can minimize some complications such as nerve damage by the old
method.  More complete studies have shown a slight to minimal improvement in
complication rates, maybe skill level not there yet?

hi robert - you have brought an interesting point.  for the most part,
prostatitis seems to involve a lot of young people.  notice - i used the
word - "seems".  let's face it.  young people are putting that prostate
through the paces - frequent ejaculations, high sex use where possible -
hormones are running pretty free in the younger person.  that's how
nature does it.

there are only two times that the prostate grows.  one - at puberty,
two, after age 25 (and it continues to grow from then on) now, why don't
they tell the male this to begin with.  it should not be a secret.

so, as the male ages, then prostatitis that he had when he was younger
gives way to the symptoms of the BPH problems as the prostate grows,
but if the male was having prostatitis infections, then the BPH
condition is not going to help this.  so, in a way the two newsgroups
are related and in a way they are not.

can you imagine a person in the 50's that has suffered from prostatitis
since they were in the 20's or 30's and now since they have a swollen
prostate from aging, along with the stones from previous infections,
they may or may block the acini ducts which can cause great pain (and
this is not an infection, but a condition) the end result is that the
male is suffering and is it due to prostatitis or BPH, a mixture of both
or a blockage.

it's just a point to ponder and my .02 cents worth.

So why not just treat the prostatitis patient with techniques used in
treating BPH.  Lets start with surgery, NOT. They are connected because they
are both the prostate as you mentioned.

hi robert - even though the prostatitis and BPH are in the same gland,
there are still a lot of differences.  i would look at this as one with
the eyes.  when you are young you may need glasses, but as you age, you
may need surgery to replace the lens in the eyes.  now, do you replace
the lens when you are young?

maybe, something hit your hot button on your response about treating
prostatitis like BPH and referring to surgery.

having a lot more miles on this old body and putting it through hell, i
feel that i can say that prostatitis can affect you when you are a lot
younger and boy, when you have it, it does get your attention.  but as
you age, BPH knocks on your door and you, now, have two things to face,
then somewhere down the road a little further, prostate cancer knocks on
your door.   since i have had prostatitis, and BPH, and prostate cancer,
i feel that i can maybe, do some headlighting for you on these subjects.

prostatitis is just the inflammation of the gland.  it is about
addressing the issue of the source of the inflammation of a good
prostate gland.  BPH is the growth inside the gland.  if can you imagine
what it is like now to hurt, then maybe you can imagine what it is like
to hurt and not be cured because of the physical growths inside.

i do think that your response was short sighted and i did not say that
we ought to treat prostatitis as the same as BPH - you did.  you are the
one who said start with surgery.

i address was the original poster's response as to why the two
newsgroups and how they may be related.  i have been around in this
newsgroup since 1997 and have seen people discuss the different diets,
the different treatments, the different doctors.  opinions flow very
strongly in this newsgroup.  more than any other newsgroup.  i have seen
two very good doctors ran off by this newsgroup and i'm not talking
about the ones everyone flame back and forth.  i'm talking about ones
who still have an ongoing practice in the u.s. and would take the time
and effort to expalin things to some of us who had problems.

i will address your comment, "a 20 year old don't want to hear about
BPH"

my answer to that is, maybe so.  you don't want to hear about BPH, but
will not hearing about it make it go away.  and at what does a person
come down with BPH?  in my travels, i've seen people in their early 30's
with it.  does that mean this prostatitis newsgroup that you are in is
strictly for the 20 year olds?  and what about advice given here?

your answer was harsh in response to a person who was offering a
suggestion.  maybe, just maybe i'm old fashion in my thinking.  but i
use to think like you.  i was impatient, wanted to get to the core of
the situation, and to hell to the rest of it.  screw the explanations,
make it go away and i'm happy.  but i found out that it didn't work that
away.

if there are any old posters still left, they will vouch for what i'm
about to say.  this newsgroup use to have on the average, 200 to 400
messages in it for years.  check now and see how many are here and if
you back out what the length of this thread, it would lose almost 10% of
the total messages.

so, this is my story and i'm sticking to it.  if you feel that i'm off
base - blast away to your heart content.  flame away or to any other
posters if it will make you feel better, but after you are done and have
had your say in telling everyone how you felt, maybe - just maybe, after
it is all said and done, you will wonder why nobody ever posts here any
more.

they still have prostatitis, they just don't want to get blasted for
sharing their feelings and thoughts.

again, just my .02 cents.

And you can post here to your hearts content.
 but as
> you age, BPH knocks on your door and you, now, have two things to face,
And you then can post to the BPH newsgroup with specific advice concerning
it.
> then somewhere down the road a little further, prostate cancer knocks on

And there is a specific NG for prostate cancer and you are welcome in
posting to that.
since i have had prostatitis, and BPH, and prostate cancer,

Perfect, just do so in the appropriate group.

I was pointing out the differences in treatment as read the topic at hand,
"laser surgery".

He got no response to his post earlier and HE WAS wondering and upset why
nobody cared about his post and I was pointing out that nobody here in this
NG cares about BPH.  He got no response to his post.

I feel like less explaining and more adequate treatments speak for
themselves as I don't need a sales pitch or spin put on by doctors.  They
should put up or shutup and if they have a cure then they will come, build
it and they will come.
Read my lips, they put a spin on laser surgery only to see the same
complication rates later on.

Then he will go to the BPH newsgroup. What if one comes down with diabetes?
He goes to that newsgroup, is that too complicated for you?
in my travels,
They have a NG for travel also.
i've seen people in their early 30's

What suggestion as he was insistenting on a response.
maybe, just maybe i'm old fashion in my thinking.  but i

WTF ??????

What answers did they come up with?  It's gone with the wind.
check now and see how many are here and if

It was not a flame but a direct answer to the poster who was demanding why
nobody responded to his post.  I told him why.  I find it interesting and so
much so that I directed him to the BPH group where it would be better
appreciated.

No problem you can share your feelings all you want about any topic here but
don't demand an explanation on why nobody responds.

> again, just my .02 cents.
A penny for your thoughts and I come ahead one cent.
