I have been diagnosed with CP in 96/97. It seems that every time I
have unprotected sex with a new partner my CP flares up. Recently it
happened again and being sick of the whole ordeal I wanted my doc to
test me for STD's. He said there was no need because of the following:

1) Last time of any intercourse was middle of Aug 03 (Got CP feeling
pain)
2) Put of Levaquin for 10 days at end of Aug 03
3) After finishing Levaquin run, pain still there, went back on
Levaquin 10 days later for another 10 days.
(So 10 Days on 10 Days off and 10 Days on Levaquin)
4) Had no STD symptoms
5) About a week ago put me on a 6 week run of Doxycyclene for my CP
(trying something different).

Since I have not had symptoms of STD's and no intercourse since Aug,
and also the fact that I have 2 runs of Levaquin he said I was fine
and I should not be worried. (From what I read Doxy kills most nasties
also).

Dear Allan

It seems to me that you do not have any STDs. What you have is CP.
Heightened stress can trigger problems. This is because stress causes
various muscles to tighten up, including those in the pelvic area.
Tightened pelvic muscles include the muscles around the urethra. As
the prostate lies around the urethra and CP is usually (only usually
mind) initially caused by insufficient voiding of the bladder in men
with enlarged prostates, what happens is that the bladder is voided to
a lesser extent than usual while you are stressed, the infection in
your prostate has a chance to infect your urethra and you experience
the usual pissing fishhooks symptoms.

What puzzles me is why Levaquin was prescribed. This is a broad
spectrum antibiotic suitable for several things including uro-genital
tract infections.
However, I don't believe it has any particular reputation for its
ability to penetrate the prostate, which is notoriously difficult to
penetrate.

You mention "Doxycyclene". Do you mean "doxycycline" as doxyclene is
used for treating malaria and in skin infections?
Doxycline is also a broad spectrum antibiotic, with no particular
indications for the urogenital tract.

More suitable antibiotics exist, such as ciproxine. Also if you do
have CP, do you also have an enlarged prostate? A doctor can test for
this by rectal touche, i.e. he sticks his finger up your arse. This is
not painful.

As you will have seen on this group, other medications for CP have
been suggested, but usually these are combined with other therapies to
improve urinary flow, stimulate the prostate, or to reduce the size of
the prostate, such as, for example, frequent masturbation, suitable
alpha blockers, Proscar and other medications, drinking more water,
and prostate massage.

Many people find a solution to their CP problems, and if all else
fails there's always surgery. So keep smiling.

My prostate is not enlarged (no voiding or any other obvious
problems).

I think I got my termology wrong :) In 96 they figured that I had a
prostate infection so they treated with antibiotics (it seems from
what I have read, alot of Dr's and Uro's keep throwing Antibiotics at
you)

Yes, I misspelled it. Doxycycline it is.

I have tried Cipro in the past (the problem has come and gone) and it
did not seem to do alot (actually just about all the antibiotics have
not really done much as far as I can tell)

Currently I am drinking water like a fish, and been looking at
alternative remedys for my situation (Herbs, Vitamins, etc). When the
pain is there I do notice a warm/hot bath relieves it (at least for a
little bit).

Don't think it's bad enough for surgery yet, seems like alot of other
have it worse than me (I just get a burning/tingling pain at the tip
of the penis, which feels EXACTLY like when a doc prods your prostate
too hard), but it can wear you down. Thanks for the help!
