Few drips after urinating...

Lurker here. 27 year old male, experiencing some slight problems.

1) After urinating, there is always one drip or two that comes out when i'm
walking around or when i sit down/stand up. When urinating, I can stand for
another 30 seconds and shake the rest off (making sure i'm finished) but
it's difficult to get it all.

2) I notice the same problem (for awhile now) when I ejaculate after sex. A
fair amount comes out, but about 2-3 minutes after ejaculation, a little
more squeezes out.

An enlarged prostate? A narrow urethra? I've had the ejaculation problem
long before this urine thing. I should also mention that i do have anal sex
occassionally with my girlfriend, and I read that could lead to an enlarged
prostate.

thanks for any thoughts.

I have no other pains, burning, stds or anything.

I'm surprised this question didn't get a response.

Does anyone else have these symptoms?  Or is this so commonplace that
everyone just takes it for granted?

I asked my urologist about it and he said that the prostate causes the
dribble.  I probably should have asked him to elaborate, but I didn't.

Does anyone know what causes the delayed dribble?  And if anything can
be done to eliminate it?  I find it annoying to have a wet spot in my
underwear after I pee.

Lurker,
I have the same problem, but I'm 52. Sorry to see that you have it at
your age. After visits to many urologists, I was told by one guy that
seemed to know his stuff that this is a problem that is caused by the
muscles and their inability to squeeze everything out thoroughly.
Basically you wind up with a very small amount of urine/sperm that is
retained and when you relax, it comes out.

I squeeze and then relax as much as possible after urinating instead
of really trying to continually squeeze and get every last drop. That
seems to work for me. He also started me on Hytrin which seemed to
help a bit as well.

He also told me that there really wasn't any way to fix it. I didn't
like it, but I think he gave me an honest answer. I would be
interested if anyone knows anything else.

"Spoonful disease"...  When you're done there's still a spoonful
left...  It is very common and not an indicator of disease.  Why it
happens?  Generally things that aren't pathologic aren't "explored"
because there's no real reason to expend valuable research efforts to
a minor nuisance issue.  It's not a big deal.  Happens to me.  Just
'wait for the shake', and if it's more than that, just
expect/anticipate it.  It's not a sign/symptom of CPPS or better said
it's not unique to CPPS patients.

I think those few drops left over are harmless. A few drops never hurt
anyone and I had it well before I ever started having problems.

I was thinking though? Isn't that left over urine trapped between the
internal sphincter and external sphincter? Isn't this the area where the
prostate gland meets the urethra? If so, why couldn't that urine backflow
into the prostate? If that trapped urine continually shot back into the
prostate, and this happened year after year, might this be one of the
reasons for a higher white blood cell count in asymptomatic men and the
calcification in older men? I recall one study claiming that in some cases
calcification had urine particles in it.

In a German slang, ( vedy intallesting! )

Where'd you read that?  Hustler?  Not a scientific publication, I'll
wager.

That's nonsense.  There are bad things that can happen from
penetrative anal intercourse, of course, but 'enlarged prostate' is
not one of them, unless it's associated with a raging case of acute
bacterial prostatitis...

I have the same problem. Does this ever go away? Is there any way to
strenghten the muscles?

I'm 36 and this is really bothering me!

Thanks,
Noah

Sorry you are having concern about your experience; perhaps this very
olde saw I first heard as a child will bring some perspective...

Normal sex does not lead to an enlarged prostate. That's really silly. But,
with that being said, your backdoor activity could lead to an e.coli
infection which could wind-up enlarging your prostate. No?

Hey! Let's do some math today boy's! Grab your pencils, ( no pun intended
there, so get your mind out of the gutter. )

E.coli + rectum + urethra = e.coli in contact with urethra.

You get an "A+" for passing the quiz...........la la la

When I ejaculate, I infect some part of my anatomy with some other
part - I haven't decided yet which parts, but this causes me to drip a
fair bit after urinating.  And it has a stronger odour when this
infection -  whatever - is present.  I take some antibiotic, usually a
single dose of zithromax and 5 to 7 days of Erythrocin(sp?)  and it
goes away - both the stronger odour and the excess dribbles.

Years ago, when I was getting thoroughly examined by my wife's
gynecologist because she (my wife) could not get pregnant, I asked
about the piddle dribs.  She stuck an expert finger wa-a-a-y up my
rectum and pronounced me to have a "varicose seal" on my bladder.

Funny how it seems to be cured temporarily by the zithromax ???
