How do I find a Good Urologist?

Hello,
   I've had prostatitis for the past several years, and have seen two
urologists. My first uro would do messages, and tried several different
antibiotics. This gave me some relief, but the symptom always came back. Due
to changing insurance, I had to go to a new uro. So far, he has gave me
Cipro, and Levaquin (which I couldn't take because of joint pain). Neither
uro has done any cultures. How do I find a uro that does cultures? Does
anyone know of any in Southern Ohio, or Northern Kentucky?
   At this point I'm willing to forget about insurance, pay on my own, and
travel to find one. I've thought about Dr. Shoske in Florida, anyone have
any experience with his clinic?

Thanks,
Larry

Larry,

    There are surely good Uros in your area.   There is just no need to
travel to the ends of the earth to some fringe doctor promising an
obscure protocol on the hopes that he or she has a magical cure.  If
Shoske had the answer you would hear more about him outside of these
forums.  I would suggest looking at a university research hospital and
inquire there-that is what I did.  When you find a Uro demand the
following test, again any good research hospital should be able to
perform them:

    Trans rectal ultra sound;
    Cystascope;
    Culture ejaculate, eps and urine looking for all organisms and yeast;
    Test for interstitial cystitis.

    These tests are more for peace of mind than anything because you will
undoubtedly find, as I did, that you have a normal urological work up,
i.e., no stealth infections or cancer and a normal prostate.  The odds
are you do not have prosta anything but rather interstitial cystitis
or pelvic floor dysfunction.  Some things that might help in the mean
time sit only on cushions or on rolled towels to prevent pressure on
your pelvic floor, stand as much as possible.  Stop bicycling and
avoid any deep hip flexion exercises like, squats, running, stair
climbers, stomach crunches act.  Stop masturbating and limit sexual
activity.  Try to consciously relax your pelvic floor. Get the name of
a pelvic floor physical therapist there is surely at least one in your
area.  Read Wise's book headache in the pelvis.  Contact Dr. J. T.
Benson, Urogynecology Associates 1633 N Capitol Ave #436
Indianapolis, IN. 46202, (he also treats male pelvic pain issues)he is
a pne entrapment specialist who gave me the name of a pelvic floor PT
in my area; he may also give you other guidance.  His number is
317-962-8152, his staff is very helpful.  Good luck and hope this info
helps.

P.S. I am not a doctor but hell most MDs don't know sh.t about this
condition so why not listen to me.
