Longtime Chronic Prostatitis sufferer, who is now 46 with a small amount
of BPH also. The two times we have cultured, it has been negative.
Recently, symptoms have gotten worse, so I went to a new uro. Uro gave
me Flomax. I believe this may help the frequency and urgency caused by
the BPH, but I don't believe it will help with the Prostatitis symptoms
(pelvic pain, watery ejaculate, etc.). I asked for anti-biotics, but
this uro claims that antibiotic therapy won't do anything. He also
claimed that if I had any bacterial infection in my prostate, eventually
it would spread and become systemic ... and then of course, I would know
it cause I would run a fever, etc.
Is it true that it is possible that there may be microscopic bacteria in
the prostate that just aren't enough to culture? And does the systemic
infection thing make sense to anyone?
Thanks for your help!

Larry,
Question you need to ask yourself is --
do antibiotics help me?? If they do you should take them - at reduced doses.
Antibiotics may have an anti-inflammatory effect or they may be killing
something - the debate is on - but do you really care? Or do you want some
relief for your symptoms? If you do than I suggest changing Uros and asking for
antibiotics.
