Hi All
Got my latest PSA test back, seems there is a trend developing.
First Test July 2005 2.1
Second Test May 2006 2.7
Third Test August 2006 3.7.
GP refering now me to Urologist as my family history has different cancers
in all member of immediate family, last year my brother had his prostate
removed at aged 57, I am 49 so taking the matter fairly seriously. My GP
said that as I have no obvious symptoms not to panic at all.
Any thoughts?
Kind regards

The last change might appear alarming in view of a study you might have
seen which suggests an increase of 2 ng/ml in the year preceding
treatment was associated with aggressive cancers. However, Peter
Scardino, in his book "The Prostae Book" reports on another study which
could not find any such correlation. When you take into account that
the most likely explanation fo such a large increase is prostatitis, I
think your doctor is right about not panicking. You should probably
have a biopsy considering your history and that of your family, but even
if you do have prosate cancer, it is early enough for there to be an
excellent chance of a cure and at your age, the treatment should not
produce any serious long term side effects.

I'll see your 3.7 and raise you a 4.6. A year and a half and two
negative biopsies later I'm back to 1.4 and no PCa diagnosis. There's
no reason to panic at all but the progression indicates it's time to
see a urologist.

Peter,
There is a trend here.
I would say - keep checking every 3 month,
when / if you reach 4.01 get a biopsy - no panic

Hi Guys
Thanks for your input.
Currently waiting my appointment to see the Urologist, I will let you know
how it goes.
I will ask for another PSA in the next month or so to see if the trend
continues to rise.
Regards
Peter

Keep that appointment with the Urologist! Not to panic but give the
situation very healthy respect.
Best to you

Pete,
Make sure they check your Free PSA on the next test. More information
is better. If you don't know what I mean, or even if you do, it would
be a good idea for you to get a copy of Strum's book on prostate
cancer.
Good luck.

I'm not sure what your GP meant. I have been told Pca has NO symptoms
at all so you shouldn't rely on that. Check it out.
