I have just come across an article that I think every one of us in the
PCa war should read and understand.

In 2003, a dying PCa victim's essay was published in the February 2003
issue of JAMA. Shortly thereafter, Stephen B. Strum MD, medical
oncologist, scientist, and co-author of _A Primer on Prostate Cancer_,
wrote this essay about the article and its author.

Brothers and sisters, this is or ought to be required reading for every
newly-diagnosed man.

I most earnestly commend it to your attention:

What a great and powerful article.  Everyone who comes to this NG should
read this.  I'm copying it right now to take to our local USTOO group next
meeting

Yes, this article sure is a lesson in life and should be required
reading for every newly-diagnosed man as you have said. Here we have a
guy who was mutilated beyond belief by his urologist and all for
nothing!!!  He underwent removal of his prostate and testicles and the
cancer spread anyway! This just goes to show you that the RP never
benefits anyone except the bank account of the urologist and the
hospital.  Dr. Hennenfent has said that surgery appears to work if you
don't need it and doesn't work if you do need it and this article is an
excellent example.  I would also like to further comment that there was
some evidence in the article of a possibility of a suspected infection
since it seems the PSA was monitored for some years back but yet an
infection wasn't found.  I can only speculate on that since it's not
too clear in the article but from prior experiences from what I've seen
I suspect there was an infection and as typical the urologist gave a
test that was not sensitive enough to pick it and so it smoldered over
the years to where this man's condition progressed to where it was.  I
suggest to everyone to read this article and learn from it and don't
let the same thing happen to you by getting yourself educated by
reading Dr. Hennenfent's new book.

Everett

Hi
Never replied to you directly before, but it seems you're a Uro
Basher. I tend to agree with you to a point, as I fired my first Uro
and chose to go ADT and Rad with another Clinic.

Here's a copy of a post I made in the "other" ng
alt.support.cancer.prostate

/begin
Nothing is Finite with PCa

1.     PSA readings can vary
2.    DRE by Urologist can prove wrong
3.    TRUS Biopsy can miss important tissue.
4.    Full Body Bone Scans can not positively detect Mets.
5.    ADT can end up Cancer tolerant.
6.    RRP's can leave residuals, necessitating ADT and Rad.
7.    Any External Radiation therapy can show reversal over time.
8.    Seeding Brachytherapy can show reversal over time,
9.    HDR Temporary Brachytherapy can miss important tissue.
10.    CryoSurgery can miss important tissue.

I possibly haven't covered all the bases here, and this must look like
a Doomsday List.

If anyone has something to add, please do.

Clarence,
I want to congratulate you for taking control of your situation and
acting in your own best interests rather than the best interests of the
urologists which seems to be biased towards surgery which has been
never proven to extend life but is very lucrative for the urologist and
the hospital.  The science in urology is very poor.  Urologists ignore
basic principals of medicine.  The urology profession is at a point now
where their standard of practice is malpractice.  You have to ask
yourself something must be very wrong if 100% of men sooner or later
get prostate cancer.  I agree with you with much of what you have on
your list and even Dr. Hennenfent includes many of those items in his
book.  I never heard of reversal over time of external radiation and
seeding brachytherapy but I guess anything is possible, I really don't
know.  My feelings as to what is happening is not a reversal but the
fact the cancer was a result of a long-term untreated infection and
since urologists make no attempt at treating the infection - as a
result the cancer repeats itself at some future time.  Again,
congratulations for taking control.  There should be more men like you
rather than the mindless zombies majority out there who hear and obey
whatever their uro tells them because their uro has the board certified
seal of approval.
Regards,
Everett
