Hi everyone,
My uncle is just diagnosed as having PC. He lives outside of US. I was
wondering how much it may cost to have a PC surgery in US (in this case no
insurance, we have to pay it all)? How many days does he have to stay in the
hospital, etc?  I would really appreciate it if you let us know of all these
details.
Thank you very much.

Hi Ogun;
You might want to repost this on alt.support.cancer.prostate. There is alot
more traffic there and alot of helpful info from those currently being
treated for PCa.

I had a Radical Retropubic Prostatectomy done Jan 12, 2004. The total bills
will probably be close to 15,000 USD. I had a three-day hospital stay,
which is typical. There are several preliminary tests, probably including a
biopsy, to determine the best procedure.

The insurance payments are much less, perhaps by 50-60%, because of
contractual agreements. I have a feeling that "list" prices for procedures
are somewhat of an insurance/tax writeoff game. You might try contacting a
doctor to negotiate an approximate price.

I have no evidence of this, but I wonder if an offer to pay cash might help
you to negotiate price. Most medical providers are used to doing a lot of
paperwork and waiting several months and more for payment.
