> Does anyone have any opinion on Malegard, a product mentioned in The
> American Prostrate Society's newsletter? It contains Vitamin E, selenium,
> beta sitosterol, lycopene, OPC, and zinc. OPC is an anti-oxidant. It's
> patented name is Activin.
Vitamin E and selenium are now being tested in a clinical trial to see
if they help prevent prostate cancer. It is not hard to overdose on
these supplements, so you should be careful not to exceed the
recommended dosages. The clinical trial is using 200 micrograms of
selenium and 400 units of Vitamin E. Keep in mind that other
supplements you may take may also contain some of these nutrients as
will you normal diet. Lycopene is in cooked tomato products, and it is
easy just to eat a product containing tomatoes on most days. I don't
know about the rest.
I take vitamin E and selenium daily. I don't know if it does any good
in suppressing prostate cancer if you have already had it, but I figure
it may help suppress other cancers, and may do some good if my pc
recurs. Meanwhile, we will have to await the results of the study,
which will take many years.
