Cost of PVP?

I'm from Canada and the PVP technique hasn't penetrated far here...
probably nobody does it here in Alberta.

Maybe I'll decide to go to the States and have a PVP done, instead of
a TURP here. Finances will figure in this, so I would like to know how
much this might cost me.

A TURP would be basically free since it would be covered by the health
plan here, but a PVP out of the country would probably all have to be
paid by me.

I'm also wondering what the wait time might be once I have made the
decision.

Mayo Clinic in Minnesota was around $7,500 a year ago.  A TURP would have
been double that.
You can call Mayo and they are very helpful in providing cost estimates.  An
evaluation appointment took about three weeks and the procedure itself  had
a four week wait, it was the holidays.

Best wishes on however you proceed.

Thanks, interesting. Worth considering. There must be a prior
examination before the actual procedure... maybe that would mean two
trips... or would that all be done at the same time?

Lately I have seen sites referencing facilities in Canada.

Try this one:

ED- phone the Laser company and ask to speak to the Sales Rep covering your
city, province...He'll tell you what doctors use their PVP system.  Then,
you can phone them directly for an appointment and then the procedures.   I
know of 2 for sure in Scarborough (East Toronto) and one that was supposed
to open a while ago in Mississauga (West Toronto)...so you are within
minutes of the Toronto Airport.  At most,  plan to stay one night hotel
before the procedure and one night hotel after the procedure if you have to
travel far, else you will do just fine leaving same day as operation.   If
you leave the hospital the same day, they will send you home with a leg
(bag) catheter and you will be highly mobile to travel anywhere in
Canada/USA on any discount air ticket.  The procedure IS covered in Canada
as it is on many plans in the USA as well.  You might have to pay for the
laser tube/fiber in some hospitals at a cost of approx $800 USA.   Good
luck.

Thanks - good info and good news.

I want to consult with my uro first, I think that is an important
first step. Anyway, I had a biopsy done a week ago and I suppose I
need to know the results before someone goes rooting around in there.

Scarborough sounds good for once the decisions have been made.

I contacted Dr Deuster and sent my history to him.
Then the date of operation was scheduled. On this date
a pre-examination was performed.
Why don't you ask him?
