Headed for PVP Feb 23.  Just curious about what pain medication some of
you having PVP used after the procedure?  Thanks. chockman@canby.com

I never used any. Came close when I was ingesting too much cranberry juice
[raised acidity of urine to the point it was akin to pouring salt on an open
wound - not smart].  From my experience, I'd work at eliminating all
foods/liquids high in acid until the raw urethra heals.  I actually obtained
a prescription for Prosed/DS for pain control - but didn't take any.  The
relief was that quick when I eliminated the foods that made the urine more
acidic.

The only pills I took were the five Levaquin tablets the doc prescribed -
but, that's another story.

I felt achy at times, so I took Tylenol on & off for a week or so.  For me,
it was all relatively painless. Be sure not to plan on aspirin or
ibuprofen--nothing that might thin the blood.  But if all goes well, you
won't need much of anything.

I think Dr. Te wanted to prescribe Tylenol 3 (w/codeine) but his intern just
wrote tylenol - turns out I didn't need anything. Jim W.

Had green light laser in Jan. I had No pain after surgery--just some
burning for 1st day. I drank lots of water--that helped.  It's been 1
1/2 months--got irritation last week-had urgency to pee every 30
minutes due to irritation.  Dr recommended AZO Standard- OTC med for
urinary irritation. Helped a lot but pee is orange!
Flow rate improved 100%--no retention. I could have returned to work in
2 days but took week off to just to be safe. Dr advised that full
recovery sometimes takes 6 months--I'm still pleased with this
procedure--much better that "knife". My doc does both-he's done over
100 green lights.

As a matter of interest -
what causes you to say that -
'burning' is "much better"  than  ' knife'   ?

1) the PVP laser seals the tissues as it cuts away the excess and thus a
clear visual field for the surgeon

whereas with the cutting of TURP the surgeon is working in a bloody field
with poor visibility hence the greater damage to surrounding muscle/tissues
and greater propensity for retro to be permanant

This is especially relevant with Middle Lobe enlargement where PVP scores
way higher in positive end results being normal

I would not hesitate to recomend PVP over and above TURP any day

Did not take one single painkiller afterwards either
