Depends on your source. It is usually described as the size of a walnut.
One source below says that the normal prostate is 20-30 gms and one with
nodular hyperplasia is 50-100 gms. Take a look below:
http://www-medlib.med.utah.edu/WebPath/TUTORIAL/PROSTATE/PROSTATE.html
Other sources describe the normal prostate as 15 gms.

Thanks. That's an excellent site.
Based on a DRE, my urologist estimates my gland at 40 gms.

Mel,
One month before my PVP, my urologist estimated my prostate size by DRE to
be about 20 -30 grams.
Ultrasound revealed a 70 gram prostate.
PVP surgury revealed a 100+ gram asymetrically shaped prostate with most of
the median lobe hidden under the bladder.
Bottom line: The DRE estimate of prostate size is only accurate for round
small prostate. It is symptoms that matter much more than size.
