I underwent a PVP a week ago and still seem to have a swollen prostate
which seems to restrict flow.  Is this common?   What do you do to
eliminate the swollen prostate symptom?

Swollen tissue is normal.  I had it.  It took about a month to go away.  Now
I piss like a race horse.  My doc gave me a list of instructions to follow.
Drink a lot of water. Use stool softeners to avoid constipation which will
irritate the prostate.  Avoid lifting heavy weights.  Forget sex.  After a
month you can do all these things.

Same thing here.  AFter about 2 weeks everything was pretty much back to
normal.  Kept away from any activity for a month. Now in week 5 I am
slowly getting back into the physical stuff, making sure to take it easy
Good luck

Tony's advice is good. But be patient. Recovery time varies with each
patient.

The swelling is the inflamatory healing reaction in the remaining prostate
Try taking Homeopathic ARNICA tablets (not tincture) 6c ............... 6
times a day  it will soon speed up the healing process

For about 2 weeks after my PVP in August 2004, I had a large soft
swelling at the base of the penis that was not painful and did not
seem to affect anything. I took it to be swollen from large
instruments being repeatedly inserted during the op. I had a long op
on a 135g prostate.

It was where I imagine there is a bend in the urethra. The swelling
went away after 2 weeks.

I had a PVP 6 days ago and still have a very weak stream. No bleeding. No
urgency. I am glad to hear others are having the same problem because I
thought something was wrong.

I am now 2 wks after PVP. Urine flow has gotten better but I am still
having to take Flomax and all I can equate to right now is I am about the
same as I was before the PVP with the Flomax. Sure hope I see these great
improvements soon that everyone is talking about. I am due for my 2 weeks
follow up in a couple of days. Interested to see what the URO says.

I am almost 6 wks.post PVP. My urine flow is much better with the Flomax
but if I discontinue it, even for one day, my urine flow starts getting
weaker. All I can say it is a little better without the Flomax that before
the PVP because I could not go at all without the Floxmax before the PVP.
My URO has scheduled me for another appointment on 4/28 and if I am still
having this problem he wants to scope me again to see if there is a
blockage. I am beginning to wonder if some of my meds are causing the
urinary retention instead of BHP.
