I just saw this ad in a local paper stating:

"A real solution is now available for enlarged prostate using a breakthrough
treatment call Cooled ThermoTherapy(tm). Cooled ThermoTherapy shrinks
enlarged prostate tissue, while protecting the surrounding healthy tissue
and organs. Cooled ThermoTherapy is an effective, single, not-surgical
procedure that can be performed in the comfort of an urologist's office or
outpatient hospital setting. Cooled ThermoTherapy is FDA-approved and has
been used for over 7 years to treat more than 80,000 men worldwide. Unlike
medications, that must be taken year after year with varying success rates
and costs, Cooled ThermoTherapy is designed to solve the problem of enlarged
prostate. Cooled ThermoTherapy can also eliminate the need for more invasive
prostate surgery."

I've never heard of this before, does anyone have any experience with this
procedure, or any other info?

The web site you refered to below was excellent. I had a TUMT done
just over a year ago and the web page did a good job of describing
what to expect. Most of the sites I have visited, do not mention
things such as:

1. Bladder spasms
2. The sensation of having to empty your bladder
3. A burning sensation at the end of the penis

I had all of these during the treatment and it would have been nice to
know about them before I started.

Is anyone interested in TUMT in this news group? I can describe my
experience if needed.

Most of the messages are about PVP and that is only starting to become
available in my area (Toronto, Canada). When I had my TUMT (Dec 7,
2003), PVP was not available (or was too new to try).

Hi Chris:

I am 61 yr old who had Prostatron 2.5 TUMT 7/2/05.  Would be interested
in sharing pre and post procedure reports.  What led you to the
procedure?  How are the same symptoms now?  Please respond direct
chockman@canby.com
Thanks. chockman

Chris:

Would be especially interested in any pre and Post AUA Symptom Scores
that you may remember?  Thanks.  chockman@canby.com

I just had the TUMT treatment 4 days ago. "In the comfort of your
Urologist office" is slight exaggeration. It was not pleasant.
Catheters come out in another day or two. I sure hope it works because
the treatment was far worse than the disease.

Hi:

I had a TUMT July 2 in Portland, Or.  My AUA score was reduced from 21
to about 10.  Seems that the TUMT did not clear the prostatic urethra
furtherist from the bladder.  So I am going back for PVP on Feb 23.  I
found that the first week after the procedure to be the worst due to the
frequency and urgency issues. I did not have a catheter installed when I
left the office, but had to self catherize the first week.  Hope things
go well for you.  Do you know how large your prostate was and what
equipment was used for the procedure? chockman@canby.com

This procedure is usually called the Trans Urethral Microwave
Thermotherapy (TUMT) and is done by devices called Prostatron, Targis,
TherMatrix, Prolieve, and other names.   There is a lot of information
available on all these systems on the internet.  I had a Prostatron 2.5
Jul 2.  Would be happy to share my experience if you are interested.
