I thought Wednesday would never come.  As some of you know, I've contributed
to this newsgroup and did my fair share of complaining about the side
effects of Flomax and Xatrol, and also of DHT inhibitors such as Saw
Palmetto and PROSCAR.  Those days are now behind me!

Wednesday, Dec 15th, I had a local anaesthetic--needles up the butt--to do
the PVP (green laser) procedure at 10AM.  Was out of the hospital on my way
home by 3:15 pm.    It was a breeze.  I mention this in case any of you are
hesitating, or confused about choosing between the various roto-rooter
methods.    If you have a chance for the PVP...my recommendation is, "DON'T
WAIT!"   As for the local anaesthetic, versus general or spinal, I opted for
the local because I expected there would be absolutely no grogginess nor any
hassles waiting for the anaethesia to wear off and I was right. I was able
to start drinking like amounts of water and juice like crazy immediately and
that helped to flush the bladder and speed my discharge from the recovery
room/hospital. .

All the best to everyone on this newsgroup.

Spread,

Happy to hear you made out so well.

I can tell you are excited about how you feel but I want to tell you to take
it easy for the next month.  You did have surgury.  Don't over do it.  The
prostate has to heal.

1. Don't lift
2. Don't strain.
3. Don't test the equipment.

Walking is fine but anything that squeezes the muscles around the prostate
should be avoided as it may cause bleeding and tiny scaring.

Other than that, it is great to hear a good news story.

Patrick

Spread,
Best of Luck to you! I was one of the more difficult PVP cases. You have a
better situation. But take Patrick's advice - Better safe than sorry. ( I
was even told not to go up & down stairs too much)

Ron:  thanks for reinforcing Patrick's recommendations.  Also appreciate the
suggestion about the stairs.  It makes sense and I had NOT thought of that.
So, will now be careful.  I do want this to be completely successful so will
heed the advice from both of you.  Thanks.

Patrick:  great advice.  I plan to take it to heart.  Thanks for the note of
caution.

Michael, another poster asked me to respond.  Sorry.  I must have read by
this too quickly.   My doctor was Dr. Baldwin.  Scarborough General Hospital
in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.   I'm a week into it, now, and things are very
good.   I am very impressed with this guy.
