Gyrus TURP

Some weeks ago I asked if anyone on this group had any experience with Gyrus
TURP. After doing some research I've decided to go ahead and get 'it' done
so I'm scheduled to have a Gyrus TURP on the 23 of March next year at the
General hospital in Ipswich.
My symptoms are, 85gm prostate with a large median lobe, over 100ml
retention and bladder pain, PSA currently 4.3
I'll have a spinal anaesthetic (be able to watch the procedure on the
monitor) and stay in an intermediate ward over night.
My uro (Dr Teng) has been doing this procedure for the last 6 months and has
a long history with the 'gold standard' but now can't see any occasion to
warrant the old TURP.
My costs will be $225 for the night in the intermediate ward, $410 for the
anaesthetist (half rebated by Medicare), $1563 for the uro ($663 rebated by
Medicare)
As PVP is not available to me in AU and with the outcomes supposedly the
same as PVP I don't think I can go far wrong.
If anyone is interested I'll report back next March.

Best wishes for a good outcome. I find that getting information from Gyrus
is harder than someone with retention trying to pass water.
I E-Mailed them last year at their UK head office asking for information on
Private or NHS hospitals doing the procedure.... silence. I tried again this
year and got a phone call telling me that the only Scottish hospital doing
it had a nine month waiting list. I then asked the guy who had given me a of
other good info for details on English hospitals doing it, he said that he
would find out and get back to me................another silence.

Thanks for the good wishes Derek.
When my uro talks about Gyrus he sounds like Patrick talking PVP so I'm
feeling quite positive.
Your right, there isn't much information out there so I guess Gyrus hasn't
taken on as quickly as PVP.
I guess I lucky my uro and the hospital don't have the old school thinking.

I tried another E-Mail to them about 10 days ago. Unfortunately I sent it to
their US office in error but I got a reply saying that they would pass it on
to the head office in Cardiff, Wales, another silence.
