As the Director of PFC, I am often faced with daunting projects to
complete–this one is certainly no different.
We are helping a client who is composing a (non-commercial) video
ethnography study and would like to include the experiences of seven
Stage 4 Prostate Cancer patients in the New York Metro area.
Methodology: an anthropologist will visit the patient's home for one
hour, interviewing him or her about their experiences with the various
treatments available. This session will be filmed, unobtrusively. Each
participant will receive a cash honorarium of $150 as a thank-you for
their time and trouble. This film will not be used for any commercial
purposes, whatsoever, rather by those in the medical profession whose
work it is to improve the nature of treatments available for prostate
cancer.
Alternately, if the patient prefers, he may come to our facility to
engage in this discussion.
I promise that this is not a sales presentation of any sort, strictly
documentary in nature. We have conducted several hundred interviews,
nationwide, and have found that all involved appreciate the experience
of sharing the manifold issues of their affliction with sympathetic and
interested researchers.
If you know anyone who may be interested in participating, please be
kind enough to have them call me at their earliest convenience, so that
we can schedule an interview with them. I can be reached anytime at
212.289.0087, or by email at pfc@nyc.rr.com.
Thank you and best regards,
David S. Leonard

"him or her" for prostate cancer? How could there be a "her" for prostate
cancer? What am I missing? Why would an anthropologist have anything to do
with it?

Since the post referred to "experiences", poster likely meant the spouse or
significant partner of one with prostate issues.
