Has anyone had an experience similar to the following:

After the catheter is removed, urine flow is very good, no pain except
for near the tip after finishing urination?  It almost feels like a cut
inside on the urethra near the tip.  When I urinate it doesn't hurt,
but when I am done and there a small traces of urine still slowly
dribble out, it stings as the urine flows over what feels like a cut.

Also, the urine flow is so fast, that I feel like I have to pull back a
little and so that the urine doesnt flow so fast becasue it can also
cause pain near the tip.

Thanks for any info.

I had this after my PVP. Not nice, but it eventually cleared up.
When you think of all the hardware (and catheter) that was introduced via
the tip it's hardly surprising that it feels the worse for wear!

If however it gets worse and causes the penis to go into a painful spasm
after urination, it is probably a sign of infection around the prostate
and needs hitting hard with antibiotics. I had this once.

Thank you for that information.  THat does make me feel a little
better.

When you mentioned "spasm" in the penis, what exactly does that feel
like?  Because the pain I experience, like I said feel like a sting as
the urine flows over a, waht feels like a cut, but if I had to
describe it to a doctor I actually might use the word "spasm".   When
it happens, It does take my breath away for a minute when I am not
expecting it.  Hopefully what I am expereincig is not the same as a
spasm, like you mentioned.  I called the nurse at my Urologists
office, and after she asked the doctor, she said that it is probably
just due to the prostate being irritated or something like that, and
it should disipate.  I really dont understand what the prostate has to
do with the tip of the penis.  Not that I dont believe it, but I would
like to understand more.

But anyway, thanks again.

After a scope (I've had 3), I would get a stinging sensation similar to what
you described for about 2 days.  I have read that some men will drink lots
of water to keep things as dilute as possible. Probably not a bad idea.
Slightly acidic urine will make the discomfort worse, but help prevent
against infection. There may be a happy medium somewhere.

I think they call it directed pain.  Generally, you don't feel the prostate
even if it is inflamed, but you do feel pain sometimes near the tip of the
penis, sometimes along the shaft, and sometimes even beyond the penis.   I
experienced this kind of pain for many years with prostatitis and also after
my TURP.

Take care,

Phil

After my flow study I had the pain near the tip and spasms from
somewhere but it went away after a day or so. My doctor gave me a
three day supply of pyridium tablets to help with the pain.

I thought drinking more water would help but it just increased the
number of times I had to deal with the pain and spasms.

Thanks for the information.  I am also trying to gather some statistic
on how many people feel 100% confident in their Urologist.  I have been
visiting the same Urologist for about 9 months.  I was diagnosed with a
Urethral Stricture and that is why I was dilated.  I had a catheter in
for 10 days after dilation.  Originally he was going to do a
Urethrotemy using laser, and that is what I was expecting as I went
into the hospital.  But when he finally arrived he said he had changed
his mind and would just do a Dilation first to see if that cleatred up
the stricture.  He thinking was, "Why do too much when dialtion may
work."  What I gathered was he wasn't entirley confident in doing the
other procedure.

Have you ever had an expereicne where you get the impression that your
Urologist is not always as confident as he should be?  I will also add
I am located in Washington DC.

Thanks.

My urologist actually reads my chart before a visit and has a plan in
mind. He also has a great bedside manner. I have had other doctors who
forget from visit to visit the treatment plan. My urologist doesn't. I
hope this helps.
