I've been using FloMax for some years. It's worked well, but the average
flow is slowing down and the resulting lack of a good stream is driving me
crazy. At my annual checkup today, the Urologist suggested TUMT;
specifically TherMatrx DOT.
I've spent the afternoon perusing this newsgroup. I saw the PVP
Success/Failure Poll that Lee M conducted back in July, but unless I missed
it, no one has done the same for TUMT.
How about it? I'll be glad to tally the results.
1 = completely satisfied,
2 = satisfied but longer than expected recovery,
3 = barely satisfied,
4 = dissatisfied.
Also, which TUMT, since there are at least 3 or 4 competitors?
Dick.

Hi Dick:
I'm a 61 yr old who had Prostatron 2.5 TUMT July 2, 2004. Sent home
without an indwelling catheter, but had to self catheterize that night
and the following 6-7 nights at bedtime. Urgency and frequency issues
first 8 days, and then things began to settle down. No side effects.
Semen blood tinged nearly 3 months. Urinary urgency (go right now!) for
about 2 months. Will continue on Uroxatral through the 6 month visit
in January. Overall, 1-completely satisfied. I am happy with the results.

Had Celsion TUMT in Nov 2001. Recovery time: less than 1 day. Completely
happy for one month. After one month completely unhappy as results were
same as pre-TUMT.
Had PVP six months later - completely happy with results for 2.5 years.

Had ThermatRX TUMT in June 2002. Wore catheter for 5 days. Procedure
uncomfortable but not painful. Inital results good, but did not last.
Now researching for probable PVP procedure.
Tally rating 3.

I had Targis thermotherapy in July 2000. Gradually increasing flow
over the next few months, to a maximum peak flow of about 15 ml./sec.
Then a gradual decline over the next year, down to about 8. In
December 2001 I therefore had a TUIP. So, ultimately I'm a 4.
(Personally I also found the procedure quite painful, and would
recommend sedation for TUMT.)
One other point which I've made before: until recently, at least, TUMT
has tended to be the first thing people in this group have tried after
medication wasn't working any more. Many of those still posting to the
group after two or three years probably didn't have success with it -
which is why they are here (though a few of us stay in the hope that
we can be helpful to those here for the first time). Those who do
report success with TUMT here tend to have had it relatively recently.
What we may not be getting a true picture of, is how many people have
had good longer-term success with TUMT; most of them wouldn't see any
need to be monitoring and posting to this group now. There also still
seem to be few, if any, good large-scale studies checking on
longer-term durability - does anyone know of any?

What were the results of your poll on TUMT versus PVP? I am contemplating the
former.

I had Thermatrx DOT by Dr. W in Jun 04. During the first month it helped
somewhat, then down to zero results. Do not waste money and time. Have
Flomax for years. Seeking PVP now and will have it done soon.
