My URO says it's time I had a TURP and is suggesting the Gyrus method.
From what he says and what I read on the Gyrus site, the outcomes are
similar to PVP.
A snip from www.gyrusgroup.com

Gyrus has introduced its Plasma-Sect large loop for treatment of BPH. It is
a 4.0 mm device designed to remove tissue during TURP procedures. It works
by forming a plasma corona, which rapidly and consistently vaporises excess
tissues that are pressing against the urethra. This new system allows
physicians to treat men on a day-case basis (a considerable reduction of the
standard inpatient care of 2-7 days).

As PVP is not available in au this sounds like the next best option.
Any experience anyone ?

This question has been asked several time without much response. Does your
URO do the procedure? I would tend to lean towards it if available as it
seems to be more precise and leaves a smoother surface with less bleeding. I
live in Scotland and recently contacted Gyrus as PVP is not available in
Scotland. Unfortunately Gyrus is only at one NHS hospital in Ayr and
although the four urologists there do it the waiting list is about nine
months.

Thanks for your reply Derek
Yes he does it at the public hospital here in Ipswich Australia and like
your NHS the waiting list is long. As a private patient, I can get in sooner
and the cost is about $1500 so I might go that way.
Thanks again

$1500 AUS is just ?617. Here I am quoted ?3,600 for a PVP. I am waiting for
the price of the Gyrus PKU at the moment and it cannot be much less. It
might be worth the air fare to Oz.

Gordon, Did you do a Google search on 'PlasmaKinetic vaporisation' and
'Plasma Kinetic vaporisation' it produces many more articles than using
Gyrus or PKU.

Thanks again Derek
Yes it was interesting and now with that and others that I've read I have a
better understanding of the procedure than when it was proposed during my
last visit with my URO. I don't know how long he has been doing this or how
many he has done but with my 85gm median lobe and 120ml retention and 5.4
PSA he says "a piece of cake". I am now armed with some questions for my
next visit on 17th December so if you are interested, or anybody else is,
I'll report back after that.
Thanks again

Do let us know how you get on. It seems that laser is the buzz word on the
NG and not many look beyond it. A bit the like calling all vacuum cleaners a
Hoover.
