I was hopeful that visiting an endocrinologist, I'd learn what causes high
DHT.  Not a chance.   They knew as much as I did.  (2 endorinologists).
They admitted that no Endocrinologist knows, and implied they don't care,
what causes high DHT...which leads to prostate enlargement.   Too bad.
There seems to be so little concern out there among the Endos.  These 2
Endos recommended Proscar and Alpha Blockers, though they were becoming less
and less efficacious.  I told them about all the side effects, but they just
shrugged their shoulders as if to say, "Suck it up".  No thanks. So, being
men, we need to go get chopped up.   I'm thankful to this newsgroup for the
discussions on PVP. Had you guys not been talkingabout PVP, (Indigo Laser),
I definitely would NOT have known to avoid getting a TURP.  I'm booked for a
consultation with a PVP doctor, though if I have to drive over 200 miles to
get  there.  (I'll visit a lot of rest stops along the way!)

What a surprise... not :-)

I'm curious as to why you are so certain that the problem is caused by
high DHT.  My impression is that this is only one of many theories and
not a very strong one at that.  I have also observed that ears grow as
one ages (as well as the hair protruding from them :-) ).  What causes
that?

Yet, on the whole, I'd still rather be a man :-)

I am approaching the same point :-(  I had hoped to be able to put it
off longer, but it now seems inevitable.

As far as the long drive, I carry a urine bottle ($1.50 at Walmart) for
emergencies.  You might also consider a self-cath before you start.  I
posted a while back about my experience with this and it has been a
life-saver several times... particularly when I am exhausted and really
need to sleep through the night.

Good luck.

It's a MAN'S problem. Men aren't supposed to have problems. That's why you
wont find money for the problem.
