My BPH Without Symptoms

Because of a slightly elevated PSA (from 2.7 to 3.7  in the past
year), my primary care physician sent me to a urologist. He did a
digital exam, lab tests, and another PSA (it went down to 3.1). His
recommendation was a cysto, which he did (it hurt, regardless of what
he kept telling me). From this, he observed an enlarged prostate, and
some resulting damage to the bladder. He then had me watch a video
about TherMatrx (ever been to a time-share presentation?), followed by
a pitch to have this done. I told him that I have none of the symptoms
described in the video, except for some slight reduction in urine
"stream" over the years. He says that I really ought to do the
TherMatrx procedure anyway, to prevent additional damage to the
bladder.

I'm going to get another opinion, but I'd like to hear from you that
have been there. Here are my questions:

1. If I have the procedure, and I have cancer in the prostate, will
the procedure's results mask symptoms that would have led to a biopsy?

2. Lacking cancer, why should I worry if I have no or minimal symptoms
of prostate problems?

3. Have any of you tried TherMatrx, and what heve been the results?

TIA,

You are experiencing internal expansion of the prostate and it is unlikely
to go away ......instead it puts more and more pressure on the bladder
muscles to work harder pushing the stream down a narrow channell the longer
you leave it the more damage is done

I know how easy it is at your stage to try to ignore the need for treatment

Honestly PVP in the right hands is excellent .........I dont know about the
proceedure your uro is suggesting but I suspect its new .........go for the
tried and tested and a uro recomended by others on this board

I am 50+ and had undergone Thermatrx by Dr. W. in NJ in September 2004.
There was absolutely no improvement.  I waited 6 weeks...6 months...and the
procedure did not bring improvements.  Like others, I was disappointed with
the results.
