Gentlemen:

I had a PVP in Tucson, Az on March 18, 2004.  My progress has been
somewhat disappointing so far.  I have a much better pee flow than
prior PVP.  It is excellent if I stay on Flomax.  However, without
flomax it slows down considerably.  That's a disapointment.  I had
counted on being like a kid again. Still have to get up 3-4 times a
night to pee.  That's a disapointment as well.

Flomax slows me down sexually and mentally and so I had hoped to be
free from it.  I know that it affects all of us differently.  This,
sadly, is my experience.

Still having trouble sleeping.  Was on ambien for a long while and it
stopped working very well.  Tried triazodone and that left me goofy.
The best things for me so far has been Tylenol p.m. (two tablets).
However, I still get up to pee 3-4 times.

My trouble seems to be that I awake if very little urine hits my
bladder.  It just awakens me.  Tried Detrol....doesn't help.

So...there is my update. Any suggestions about how to get a good
night's sleep?

Al,

It is really suprising that your URO still has you on Flomax. Prior
to my PVP my URO wanted me off of it for at least two weeks
in advance of the procedure. He said that if he was removing tissue,
he didn't want drug induced tissue relaxation to interfere with
the process. Afterwards he had me take anti-inflammatories
(ibuprofen) and said he would give me a prescription for something
better (presumable Vioxx) if over the counter products didn't work.
While I noticed slow improvement for at least 6-7 months it took
9 months for my retro to go away and 10-11 months before my
flow started to significantly improve. I am now 15 months out and
as long as I pee before going to bed I can make it all night.

I guess my feedback is to say, "hang in there, it will get better". From
reading alot of posts on this board and based on your description, I
would bet you had median lobe problems/removal. It appears that
men with this variant have the longer recovery period.

Lewis.
