Just make sure they do the flow test first. On my first visit, the nurse
had me pee in the cup when I got there. 30 min later post-cystoscope, all I
had was a dribble so they didn't get a valid reading. They did the
post-void residual with an ultrasound. It came out zero but I know that's
not always the case.
You should ask about treatment options, surgical and non-surgical. Ask
about any long term effects of Flowmax use. Ask about potential bladder
damage if you don't have a surgical treatment. I'm sure you'll think of
plenty of things to ask before you go. Just write them down so you don't
forget.
Sorry to ask, but what is a cystoscope?

There are two kinds of probes that enter the penis and go up the urethra
into
the bladder. The horribly really painful one is rigid, the painful one
is flexible.
They let the doctor see inside.
They were invented during the Spanish Inquisition.
Since my rigid cystoscope I've been worse.

I've had 2 flexible cyctoscopys and found them nothing to worry about - hope
it's the same for you. Jim W.

My symptoms were BPH.
The doc used a flexible cystoscope. He started
by injecting (using a syringe with no needle)
some xylocane up the urethrea. About 20 cc I'd
guess.
When inserted the cystoscope, there was almost
nothing felt.
While he did the exam, he flowed about 250ml of
saline into the bladder.
Then he drained me in the potty with the flow
meter and did a ultrasound to measure the size
of the prostate.
It took about :45. Like another pt of the same
doc, I had a little stinging when taking a leak
after this exam, lasting for 2 days.
It was surprisingly painless. So was the PVP
that followed. I was delighted. Bill Hale

My uro used a flexible cystoscope. About 15 min before he did the exam, the
nurse injected (via a small tube) lydocain into my penis to numb it. This
just felt cold. The cystoscope exam was not painful until he pulled it out.
I went "whoooaa" and he said "that usually gets their attention." The whole
thing took less than a minute as I recall. Starting the next day for about
1 1/2 days, urination was quite painful, it felt like I was peeing razor
blades. After that, everything was back to normal.
