I have now twice had the experience of asking urologists newly listed with
laserscope, how many pvp's they have done. For those of us who have followed
the list, this is an obvious measure in deciding who to see. In each case,
the office has treated this as a laughably ridiculous question, giving out
figures like "hundreds," or "we don't keep count," all with an insulting
tone indicating that it's simply not kosher to make such an
inquiry.Obviously, they have had to order components for each surgery, so
they have to know.
1. Does anyone know why there is such secretiveness?
2. Does anyone have figures for Dr. Choi and/or. Dr. Hecht in New York City?
Thanks for any help.

Very strange. The uro I am going to in Toronto readily shared with me
that he had only done 16 procedures to the present and that if I decided
to have him perform a PVP on me... "You would be the 17th."
However, just try to find a uro in Canada that has done more than
16...!!!

Thanks, John. I don't know what to make of this until I hear reports from
others about how widespread this lack of candor about #s of pvps done is.
In the meantime, a possible answer is this: the Canadian medical system is
more humane, less profit-driven and therefore more candid with patients. The
US medical system, as everyone knows, is in catastrophic condition.

I think you might want to see Dr. Te at Cornell-Weill in Manhatten. He
has performed "more than a few" proceedures, and also was instrumental
in the proceedures development. I considered him when I scheduled my
proceedure in January, 2002. Due to logistics, I decided to have Dr. Wen
Lin in St. Augustine perform mine. He has also performed "more than a
few". I have also, been VERY pleased with Dr. Lins expertise.<bfg>
My earlier experiences with Uro's, here in Upstate NY, had almost
convinced me they were all a bunch of sanctimonious a.sholes.
It seems some are, but fortunately-for us-, some are not.
Good luck,

One way to ask this is:
1) How long have you been doing PVPs??
2) About how many do you do per week or month??
Usually docs will and can answer those type of questions and the answers
will provide the information you want.

I went for a consultation with Dr Te and he didnot participate in my
insurance plan. His prices were high and wanted to redo many tests
which I had already done and had brought with me.I ended up traveling
to Rochester Ny and having my Pvp done at Strong Memorial Hospital by
Dr Ertuk.I am extremely happy with the results[done march15]and found
both the doctor and hospital more pleasant to deal with than NYC.So
here is a vote of confidence for 'upstate NY'.The pvp has improved the
quality of my life significantly.I am sure Dr Ertuk would let you know
how many pvp's he has done.Good luck
