Warning I only took Flomax for 6 months but sure as hell wish I hadnt and that PVP had been available sooner Because the hell that is HH and all the horrible tests like Gastroscopy to diagnose it beat any possible fleeting discomfort or delayed recovery from PVP The op for HH is extremely dangerous has a high risk of damage to the vagus nerve and even then leaves you with very limited capacity to eat anything other than baby size portions of food The drug companies should warn patients properly about this nasty side effect of Flomax ........which is a muscle relaxant Did your doctor, or urologist, say that your HH was caused by Flomax? Many of us are taking Flomax and this is the first time someone has mentioned this "side effect'. We'd be interested in knowing. It would be a pre-existing condition that was not recognized. Flomax is a smooth muscle relaxant. As such it will lower the tone of all smooth muscles, including those of the esophogus. This will allow acid reflux if you have HH. My HH did not begin to be a problem until I was in my forties, but it was a pre-existing condition from birth. Patient informaton for Flomax indicates it should not be used for patients with a GERD (the new term) disorder. He is simply taking your money. The second H means hernia. Hernia. Hernia. It is present at birth. My cat has it, and she has never taken Flomax. If you wish to be stupid, then that is your problem. Have you even read the patient insert on Flomax? Of course not. You have GERD. it was not caused by Flomax. Go to a GP. Get a prescription for Ranitidine. Do not use any medication that is a smooth muscle relaxant. It will aggravate GERD. Do you believe that anti-histamines CAUSE BPH? They exacerbate the underlying condition so that you can't piss. I repeat: I had no GERD symptoms until I was in my forties. The scans clearly showed the hernia that was present when I was born. Of course if you are fat and drink 60 cans of cheap beer every day, the esophogeal muscles will lose tone, and the sphincter will not close properly. If you have HH, it was not caused by Flomax. If you do not believe that, your Gastro will become rich with you as the only patient. Maintain a weight determined by your GP. No alcohol. NO PEPPER! No grease. I do love Irish stew, but I can no longer eat it. Some beer is OK, provided you drink it with a meal. I can't believe Flomax triggers hernias. My guess is, inactivity can lead to weak muscles and eventually hernias. I believe inactivity causes most of the infirmities in older people. I have to be very careful with my diet to prevent acid reflux. It's a relief to discover my GERD is not as serious as I thought. It took me 4 years to figure out what was going on because I used Flomax on and off. I am also having trouble with herniated disc in my lower back. I stopped completely with Flomax for 4 months and the back was fine. I just took it for a couple days and my back is out again. I have finally put the two together. I had several prostate infections and HH just once. All I did was lift my leg to get out of the car. I am now using Uroxatral. It works OK but Flomax worked a little better. I don't want these side affects. What is PVP?
