I am a 57 year old who has been diagnosed with BPH. I have been following
this newsgroup for a little while now and found the information here
invaluable. I found out on my own about Saw Palmetto which I have been
taking for about 3 months now. It helps with the flow but not urgency and I
still get up a couple of times a night. I read about Avodart and ask my
internist about it. He wrote a prescription and I have been taking it about
2 weeks along with the saw palmetto. I have been told the Avodart over a
period of time can shrink the prostate and help with the symptoms. Anyone
else on this newsgroup taking the two together or anything similar. I am
trying to avoid surgery.

I have been taking avodart (dutasteride) for over a year now, it has not
helped me whatsoever, although it has decreased my libido and caused
uncontrollable itching, I have recently ceased taking this and remain with
my Hytrin (terazosin hydrochloride) which works as best it can.

I was hoping to have the PVP operation but my urologist would not allow me,
he wants to carry out a TUIP/BNI, although I have approached the local PCT
with the hope they will fund the op, the cost here in the UK is about
?4,200.
