IV anesthetic problems?

I'm considering having some dental surgery done. I have BPH. The
local anesthetic, Lidocaine(sp?) or whatever, doesn't work well
with me so I'll probably elect to have IV. I know some
anesthetics cause urination difficulty. Is this one of them?
Anyone been through this?

I had a brief IV when I had a cataract operation so they could
inject a local anesthetic in/around my eye. No problem.

TIA

Ken, you don't say what is going to be administered via the IV! A
sedative? A general anesthetic? And in either case, which one?

As you say, some anesthetic agents certainly can cause urinary
retention, even in people without BPH. Talk to your dentist about it,
and if you aren't satisfied he knows enough, consult an anesthesia
specialist, telling him what the dentist proposes to use. (Actually,
I'd hope the dentist himself would be using such a specialist to do
the anesthesia.)

I don't know. Probably a general anesthetic. I will have multiple
extractions. I've not gone that far in my plans. All I've gotten
from the oral surgeon so far is a ballpark price. He wants $50
just for an appointment to set things up. With any luck I'll not
need the surgery - at least for a while - a trip to my regular
dentist tomorrow may tell me more.

BTDT. The reason for my question.
