Good luck Al - in your recovery! (Welcome to PVP Club).
I suggest that you take a stool softener like Colace (maybe 2 a day) for the
first couple weeks. Pushing can irritate prostate. I get 100 softgels for
$2.89.

Ron:
Thanks for the advice about stool softners. I will do it. I think
that I will need all of the advise I can get. I'm now about 10 hours
post operation. The catheter is still implace. I have a large bag
with a large tube. It's not pretty but I'm adjusting. I will keep
you posted.
Your advise is most welcome. Once again the value of the
internet.

Is there any harm in taking stool softeners for an extended length of time?
I am 6 weeks post TURP and am still taking them.
Thanks

I've been told by doctors that there is no harm. I'm still taking them 3
months post 2nd PVP, and took for several months after my 1st PVP. I welcome
any opposing information.

Gentlemen:
It's now been 36 hours since my PVP. I have a urine bag strapped to
my leg and it won't be removed until Monday. I didn't sleep a whole
lot better last night but with the bag, I didn't have to get up.
But....you know what.....I think that I am feeling better. Tomorrow
may be different but today it seems to have been worth it. The doctor
said that my urethra was almost blocked so I couldn't completely empty
my bladder. Well I suspect it is empty right now. Perhaps it's empty
for the first time in over 10 or more years. So....today at
least.....I am feeling better.
If my bladder was never empty....would that be reason enough to feel
crappy for a very long time? I hope I am on to something. I will
keep you all posted as my progress develops. Can't wait until Monday.

Gemtlemen:
Today is Monday. Took the catheter off and I'm feeling sooooo much
better. I am now post PVP by 4 days. Life is much better. So far
I'm glad that I had it done. However, I have yet to pee with my new
member. Will keep you informed.

Hey Al,
You could have at least peed before you posted. You're leaving us "hanging"
here :)

Gentlemen:
Well...I'm disappointed in my ability to pee. For some reason I
didn't feel the urge to pee for quite some time after I removed my
catheter. Well I finally did and the stream was weak and the amount
was poor. Same thing all of the rest of the day. I could feel my
bladder refilling and remaining so.
Went to sleep last night. Got up my usual two times. Very weak
stream and so my night's sleep wasn't all that great either. It's
6:30 am here in Tucson and I had to force much pee out. I'm most
disappointed. I will call the physician today and see if he has an
opinion.
Sorry that I didn't get information out to you sooner.

Al, Ask your surgeon - if at the end of the operation, Was there a clear
open channel. What was the stream like before he put the cath in? Another
possibility is a bladder deficiency. Did you have urodynamic (bladder)
testing before surgery?
