a psa of 14 is pushing the envelope anyway. here's the basic
guidelines, in case anyone wants to print this out and save it for
future reference.
now, we are talking about prostate cancer only - not someone who might
have prostatitis or BPH, who might have a higher psa reading because of
this.
if the person has a psa of 4 to 10. chances are good that it is still
somewhat gland contained and curable.
if the person has a psa of 10 to 20. chances are still good for a cure
but chances are it is into the surrounding area of the prostate and
depending on the type of treatment used, can have negative impacts.
such as surgery would probably mean no nerve sparing and radiation would
cause damage later down the road, but both will kill the cancer.
chances for curable or not as good.
if the person has a psa about 20, chances are it is spreading in the
body. remember these numbers are not hard as fast, but a guide. the
higher the psa number the less chance that it can be contained. and
chances are the prostate cancer is treatable, but not curable.
remember, know your psa number. one man is in the prostate cancer
support newsgroup who just celebrated his 40th birthday the day before
and found out the next day from the doctor that his psa was 869.
another man was never sick a day in his life and at the age of 53, when
in for a check up. his psa was 2500+. this was in march that year, and
he didn't know if he would make it to the end of the year.
BPH, you can live with, may aggravate you a lot, but won't kill you.
prostate cancer will.
ok, i'll get off my tree stump now. now, back to your regular
posts.............
