I don't know how old you are Allen, but as I get older, I get less sleep. I
haven't had what I would classify a good nights sleep in at least 10 years.
(I an 71) As for Flomax and Hytrin, I tried them both. Hytrin made me
dizzy and I felt as if I was going to pass out many times from bending over.
I couldn't take it and play golf. Flomax stopped up my sinus almost
completely.
I had the PVP in St. Augustine about 15 months ago. It worked fairly well,
but I had a prostate infection shortly after the procedure which I assume
was the result of the procedure. Since then, I can make it through the
night getting up only about 2-3 times as opposed the 4-6 times before the
procedure. Urine flow has definitely improved but is only about half now as
to what if was shortly after the procedure. It is adequate.
All medicine is poison in some form or another. When you hear these
advertisements on TV for various medicines, they list 5-10 side effects
ranging from headaches to death. Many of the medical problems experienced
by people my age and order are the result of over-medication and conflicts
between medications. I hear about people taking 10-15 different medications
and it is almost certain that there are at least two or three that are not
compatible.
My experience with doctors has been dismal. Almost to a man, they all have
the same shortcoming - they do not know how to listen. When you start
explaining a problem, they hear the first 10 words and assume they know what
you are going to say and make their diagnosis based on that assumption and
prescribe the wrong medicine. I made a trip to the emergency room because
of this problem and it is too widespread.
Sorry for the tirade, but I have a major problem with the medical
profession.

DDDD,
Do you get a good nights sleep after the PVP?

Nope, I stilll had to get up 2-3 times a night. It might be so ingrained in
me that it made no difference. I'm used to it and can live with it.

DDDD,
Thanks for your answer. I'm 60. I haven't had a good night's sleep for 15
years due to chronic fatigue syndrome alongwith BPH. I've had two TUIP's.
98 and 00. They both resulted in temporary improvement. I plan on having a
PVP in June when my urologist gets a Laserscope. I can only sleep for 2
hours at a stretch. I'm glad I'm retired. I wouldn't be able to work. Too
tired Flowmax just increased my fatigue level.

Gentlemen:
This newsgroup has been so helpful. Medical people just don't
listen. They get an impression right away, write a prescription and
charge 2 weeks pay. This newsgroup lets me know that we are not alone.
I too haven't had a good night's sleep in a very long time. Over
10 years or more. I am 67 years old and it doesn't look like it's
going to get better. I think that it started with BPH and then add
age with it and it has become a pattern.
To get sleep I take 1/2 tablet of ambien. Then when I awake for
the second or third time.....I take the rest of it. That usually lets
me sleep til around 6 am. That's just the way it is. Add that to BPH
and the quality of life becomes the pits. As some of you have
written, fatigue, groggyness, mind fog and more become a way of life.
I have been taking flomax for a couple of years now. That has
helped me get more sleep and that's been a plus. However, I have
concluded that it was contributing to my mind fog etc. The ambien is
also to blame. Put the two together and I have a potent mix.
So I have a PVP sheduled on March 18th of this month. I am in
great hopes that I will be able to cut out the flomax after that.
Then I will work on the ambien.
I would love to have back just a normal day. I would like to
think clearly once again and have some energy. Perhaps it's just a
dream but it's what I am hoping for. I will let you know after my
PVP.

Good luck and I hope everything turns out the way you expect. Don't get
your hopes up too, too high and you won't be disappointed. You will get
help and I am sure that the mind fog will go away when you stop Flomax.
That stuff is BAD.
