I'm 64 years old and had a PVP performed this past July.  I'm have since
recovered and now sleep thru the night.  I think I had retro when I first
re-started sex after the operation.  It had a different sensation.  Nothing
came out; I never noticed anything in my urine.  After a couple of months
the old sensation returned.  It also felt like I was squirting again.  The
volume is miniscule at about 1/4 teaspoon or less!  Prior to the operation I
would ejaculate several tablespoons full.

This is not a totally bad situation.  My girlfriend and I do a lot of hiking
and camping. We are about to buy matching sleeping bags that zip together.
The very limited amount of ejaculate helps keep the inside of the sleeping
bag stain free.

I never notice ejaculate in my urine.  Could it be that the doctor cleaned
out my prostate gland so well that I'm only able to make a few drops?

From the postings I have read on this group, other men seem to be bi-modal.
That is, they squirt or they don't.  I never read of anyone having a very
limited amount of ejaculate post PVP.  Am I the only one? Could this be
something that men just don't talk about?

hi david - since i don't any a prostate any more and can comment from
"the other side" of the mountain - so to speak.  i can tell you that
even with no prostate, you will feel the similar feelings as far as
muscle spasms, but of course, nothing comes out.  however, you will
still have the fluid made by the cowper's glands which is at the base of
the penis known as "pre cum".  you should still have that plus whatever
the prostate has.  can't provide any answers for the reduced amount
other than the possibility of the nerve damage inside the prostate that
control the degree of contractions to the muscle tissue.  you see,  the
acini each have their own opening when they make up the prostate fluid,
so if one was to look at the prostate gland itself, like a bunch of
grapes, with each grape as a stand alone unit, if you were to squeeze
the grapes in a controlled fashion, that would be your output.  there is
no central holding tank.  so, from a reduced fluid output.

if one has to do some thinking outside the box, so to speak.  maybe,
someone else can come up with a better explanation than what i did.

hope this helps.

Hi Dave,

I'm 68 and  had PVP last May and my ejaculate is not what is was years ago,
I think. I never measured quantity.
The orgasm and sensation is now definitely better than prior to PVP. Then I
was taking Flowmax and ejaculation was inconclusive, when there was one.
Prior to Flowmax, BPH was such a misery that the best orgasm that I can
remember was no compensation for the agony of BPH.
Now, I would say that  there is a difference in quantity with strong arousal
and a "routine" arousal. It probably this is connected with the amount of
lubricant in the urethra.

Frankly, I am very grateful for the satisfaction I still have. In my humble
opinion, there is more to sex than quantity of ejaculate. Sex to be optimal
requires a healthy body , mind and a happy  relationship. This is not an
assured thing when one gets older.
All considered, PVP has changed my quality of life for the better.
Retirement is  very good now. I enjoy to be able  to go concerts,
exhibitions, drive, ski, travel and eat and drink, and yes, sex.  I get up
once a night and I'm  relieved from worrying about  time available between
pees, acute retention , suffering  painful peeing and humiliating dribbling.
No more  toilets and urinals on my mind all the time.

To answer your question subjectively, I would say that I have less ejaculate
than prior to Flowmax but not before PVP.
I knew that there was a good chance of retro prior to PVP. Dr Laub pointed
out that there was some trade-off between retro and flow. My choice was,
first deliverance from BPH, then minimize retro.

David, Your case is not unusual. The prostate which produces about 90% of
the seminal fluid was reduced by the PVP. This will naturally reduce the
amount of semen. After my first PVP, the volume of my ejaculate was somewhat
reduced. You lucked out because you can still ejaculate & have orgasm.
Thanks for sharing.

Thank you for your responses guys.  Grapes, who knew!  I thought it was all
stored up in one reservoir.  Thanks for clearing that up.  If 90% of the
ejaculate is made in those "grapes", perhaps the lack of ejaculate is a
measure of how thorough job the doctor did of cleaning out my prostate.  I
recall that after the operation my doctor came to me, beaming with pride and
told me that he cleaned me all out.
